The big screen adaptation for If I Stay has officially signed on Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role. The project was first announced in 2009 when Twilight direct, Catherine Hardwicke showed interest in adapting the novel from Gayle Forman. R.J. Cutler is now attached to direct the film.
If I Stay follows a story about a gifted classical musician named Mia and her boyfriend, Adam, an up and coming indie-rock star. Torn between two paths in life, her art or her relationship, Mia is forced to make an even starker choice between life and death when she is caught in a fatal car accident with her family one snowy morning in Oregon. In a coma, Mia has an out-of-body experience, and watches as friends and family gather at the hospital where she is being treated. Mia watches as her memories flash before her eyes as she comes to realize that she must decide if she is to wake up and lead a life far more difficult than she ever anticipated, or to slip away and die. It has received widely positive reviews. A sequel hit shelves in April 2011, entitled Where She Went.
Moretz is already a busy actress. She recently reprised her role as Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass 2 and also is starring in the title role in Carrie.
