The Cinemax series based on the graphic novel series by “Walking Dead” creator and writer Robert Kirkman, launches its ten-episode season Friday, June 3 and has already been renewed for a second season ahead of the series debut.

“Outcast” follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. To his family’s dismay, he appears to be in the clutches of demonic possession, but there’s something very different about this possession and its connection to Kyle Barnes.

It was produced by Cinemax by Fox International Studios, and also executive produced by David Alpert, Sharon Tal Yguado and Sue Naegle. Watch the new trailer below and the series premieres June 3.

Netflix to Start Production on Marvel’s The Defenders This Year

maxresdefault

After the amazingness that has been Netflix’s “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” I am pretty pumped for the Avenger’s style Netflix Marvel series “The Defenders.” And according to “Daredevil” actor Charlie Cox, the series is moving closer than we thought.

The actor revealed during a press event that series that incorporates many of the Netflix Marvel heroes will begin shooting this year. The news came out when a fan asked whether or not a third season for “Daredevil” was in the works. (Currently, a third season has not been announced. However, a spin-off series, centered on Bernthal’s character Frank Castle / Punisher and titled Marvel’s The Punisher, was ordered by Netflix in April 2016.)

“What we do know is, at the end of this year, we’re going to be making The Defenders, and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome,” the actor said.

We are still waiting on the Iron Fist series starring Finn Jones and the Luke Cage series which stars Mike Colter (the character has appeared already in “Jessica Jones.) Marvel’s The Defenders features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all fighting side by side to keep their micromanaged New York City Block known as Hell’s Kitchen safe.

There has been no official announcement regarding The Defenders premiere date nor the first season of Iron Fist or the second season of Jessica Jones. Luke Cage’s first season to premiere on Netflix Sept. 30.

Stephen King’s The Mist Will Become A Spike Series

Mist2007

Stephen King is getting yet another adaptation and this time it is another TV adaptation. Spike TV has announced plans to adapt “The Mist” into a 10 episode miniseries. This comes nearly a decade after The Walking Dead’s Frank Darabont adapted the tale into a film that was really quite good.

The novella by King follows the small town of Bridgton, Maine as it is suddenly enveloped in an unnatural mist that conceals otherworldly monsters. A group of survivors are trapped inside a supermarket as they attempt to survive, figure out the monsters hidden in the mist, and survive each other.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spike TV ordered the series which will also be the network’s first scripted drama in a decade. Dimension TV is producing “The Mist” and Christian Torpe of the Danish series Rita is on board as a writer and executive producer.

Currently, there is no news on who will be cast in the series or what kind of production timeline we are looking at.

“The Mist” television series is expected to debut in 2017.

Simon Kinberg Confirms Next X-Men Movie to be Set in the ’90s

jimleegreatest4

According to a recent interview with Simon Kinberg, the X-Men are finally heading to the 90’s in the film universe.

The 2011 film, X-Men: First Class, was set in the 1960’s and its follow-up, X-Men: Days of Future Past, took place in the 1970’s, and the next film about to release, X-Men: Apocalypse, is set in the 1980’s. So it is about damn time our favorite unitard wearing heroes crop up in the 90’s.

Kinberg, the producer of the franchise, confirmed in an interview the setting for the next installment would be the 90’s. However, he did not reveal if it was HIS next installment or director Josh Boone’s in-development New Mutants project.

Boone’s New Mutants is a film that will follow a whole different group of X-Men including Magik, Wolfsbane, Dani Moonstar, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Warlock. However, some reports say that Alexandra Shipp‘s Storm (who will appear in this summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse) and James McAvoy’s Professor Charles Xavier playing major roles in the film as well.

Elisabeth Moss to Star in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale Series

the-handmaids-tale-cover

Hulu announced this week their plans to adapt “The Handmaid’s Tale” into a series and Elisabeth Moss will star in the leading role. The series is based on the award-winning, best-selling novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood.

The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted religious fundamentalism that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead — all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Moss, known for her roles in “Top of the Lake” and “Mad Men” will play Offred, a Handmaid trying to survive in the male-dominated totalitarian regime of Gilead. Enslaved by a society that values only her fertility, Offred must find a way to survive in this world of oppression and swift, cruel punishments.

The series will be created, executive produced and written by Bruce Miller, with Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Warren Littlefield serving as executive producers.

Craig Erwich, SVP, Head of Content, Hulu, said,

“Hulu has established itself as a home for blockbuster television events and what better way to expand our originals offering than with a series based on this acclaimed, best-selling novel. Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ was seen as ahead of its time and we look forward to bringing it to life on our platform.”

Atwood also commented on the project saying,

“I am thrilled that MGM and Hulu are developing ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ as a series, and extra thrilled that the very talented Elisabeth Moss will be playing the central character. ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is more relevant now than when it was written, and I am sure the series will be watched with great interest. I have read the first two scripts and they are excellent; I can hardly wait to see the finished episodes.”

Atwood will serve as Consulting Producer for the series, which will debut its first season on Hulu in 2017.

Marvel Studios FINALLY Considering Black Widow Solo Movie

3695055-7236217694-Aveng

After years of fans asking for and getting frustrated with the lack of, Marvel Studios and the cinematic universe are finally committing to a solo Black Widow film. FINALLY.

According to Kevin Feige, the studio is moving forward with a Natasha Romanoff film after the bulk of Phase 3 in the MCU is completed. Phase 3 began with this week’s release of Captain America: Civil War and will continue with Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. Then afterward it seems like Black Widow will get her own slot.

“Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then,” Feige told Deadline.”I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”

While that is not a direct confirmation that her movie is for sure happening, this is the first time they have done any type of commitment towards the female hero’s own film. This is pretty huge for the hundreds of thousands of fans who have begged for a solo film (and merchandising for that matter) considering Black Widow is one of the main Avengers.

We so far have only had small glimpses into the past and person that was Natasha. In Avengers: Age of Ultron we learned that she grew up as a killer ballerina – a school who trains young girls in the arts of killing and skilled movements. She reveals that her her training ended with forced sterilization.

Scarlett Johansson hasn’t confirmed that she would sign on but last year she said,

“The character has a really rich origin story,” she told Collider. “In my mind, there’s room for plenty more Black Widow and certainly more—I think I could see her in a standalone film.”

More details will hopefully be released soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Adds Nathan Fillion

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-2-Rocket-Raccoon-Header

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering phase 3 and that includes Guardians of the Galaxy 2! According to reports the sequel just got a lot more bitchin’ as the cast has added science fiction veteran and hunky hero Nathan Fillion!

According to some on-set photos (not official photos mind you) it appears that Fillion is playing a character familiar to Marvel Comics fans, Simon Williams. The character is a long running character in the comic books and is an actor who has energy-based powers that give him super-strength, flight, and superhuman endurance.

In the photos we see a scene revolving what appears to be a “Simon Williams Film Festival” which takes place on Earth rather than out in the galaxy somewhere. It is also important to note that Williams once appeared as an Avenger in the comics, operating under the code name Wonder Man, so it may be possible that something could come up about it at some point. We won’t know for a while unfortunately.

The First Official Trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke is Here and IT IS AMAZING

batman-the-killing-joke

While we had a pseudo first trailer for this a few weeks ago made by a fan, this is the first legit and official trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke and it is amazing.

The animated adaptation of the graphic novel features Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their iconic roles as Batman and the Joker from the ‘90s animated series which is amazing in and of itself. But what really shines is the story it self and how the trailer already appears like the film will bring it alive.

Not to mention how unique this film is. Not only is the animation style one we haven’t seen in probably decades but it is also an animated film that is rated R. That is something we almost NEVER see. And it isn’t rated R for cursing or nudity or anything like that, but for the dark and adult themes which makes this even rarer. That is what is giving fans such high hopes and expectations for this adaptation. It seems to be everything we wanted.

Let’s hope it holds a candle to our expectations.

Batman: The Killing Joke will premiere at San Diego Comic Con in July. Its wider release date has yet to be announced. You can watch the trailer below.

Ben Kingsley, John Boyega, More Voicing BBC One’s Watership Down Miniseries

76620

The classic novel, “Watership Down” that I am sure everyone read in school, is getting another adaptation: this time via the BBC and with way more bitchin’ voice acting.

The Richard Adam allegorical rabbit tale was first released as a novel in 1972 before being adapted into a feature length animated movie in 1978. Now the BBC is going to adapt it once more as an animated miniseries featuring the voice acting of en Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, John Boyega, Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy, Freddie Fox, Anne-Marie Duff, Miles Jupp and Olivia Colman.

“Watership Down” is set in the rural landscape of southern England, where a group of rabbits must flee from the intrusion of humans and the impending destruction of their homes. With a pair of bunny brothers taking the lead, the group ventures from their native land to an ideal society. Along the way, they face predators and adversaries that test their courage and will.

Matthew Read, BBC’s network drama commissioning editor, released a statement championing their retelling of the famous novel.

“Richard Adams’ novel is one of the most successful books of all time and one of the biggest selling books in history,” Read said. “It is fantastic to have the opportunity to bring a modern classic to a mainstream BBC One audience with such an incredible roster of actors alongside the talented team overseeing the animation.”

The four-part CGI miniseries is slated to air in 2017 and will see Kingsley, Boyega, McAvoy and Hoult voicing the stories central characters, led by McAvoy’s Hazel and Hoult’s Fiver. The project is being produced by U.K. production and management company 42, in addition to Noam Murro’s Biscuit Films. Murro (300: Rise of an Empire) will direct, while BAFTA-nominated Tom Bidwell will pen the script.

Co-director Pete Dodd (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Frankenweenie) is leading the series’ CGI animation team, along with producer Hugo Sands and animation studio Brown Bag Films.

‘Inhumans’ Movie Officially Pulled from Marvel Schedule

inhumans-logo-undated-slice-600x200

With the popularity of the television series, “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and how well it has fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it wasn’t super surprising when Marvel announced an Inhumans movie into the lineup. What IS SURPRISING is that Marvel has dropped the film from the MCU lineup. So it looks like it may be cancelled.

A while back, Kevin Feige told Collider that Marvel is still planning to make the film.

Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

However, since his comment, they have cancelled the 2019 release date and completely unscheduled it from the MCU phase 3, it doesn’t look so good. When Marvel first made the Phase 3 announcement it was 2014 and a different time. Inhumans was going to release between the two halves of Avengers: Infinity War but since 2014 Marvel has added Spider-Man: Homecoming, then Captain Marvel was moved up a couple months and Inhumans was bumped back thanks to Ant-Man and The Wasp. Now, the film is off the schedule entirely.

You can see the current phase 3 schedule for the Marvel Cinematic Universe below:

  • Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016
  • Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
  • Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming– July 7, 2017
  • Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017
  • Black Panther – February 16, 2018
  • Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 – May 4, 2018
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018
  • Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019
  • Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 – May 3, 2019
