James Spader Cast as Ultron in Avengers Sequel

Robert California, or I guess you might know him as James Spader BDSM extraordinaire, has been cast in the lead villain role in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spader will play the titular role of Ultron in the sequel that is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.

Marvel announced the news earlier this week that Spader would portray the character who has long been a chief villain for the Avengers since their comic creation.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is intended to be the sequel to 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers and the eleventh installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is set to be scripted and directed by Joss Whedon and will see the return of its star-studded cast including Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The sequel was announced in May 2012, after the successful release of The Avengers. Whedon, the director of the first film, was brought back on board in August 2012 and a release date was set. By April 2013, Whedon had completed a draft of the script. Casting began in June 2013 with the re-signing of Robert Downey, Jr. The film is scheduled to begin principal photography in early 2014 at Shepperton Studios in England.
