Marvel Once Again Considering the Idea of Hulk Solo Film?

oscar-effects-avengers-hulk-fire

Fans have been practically begging Marvel to release a “Hulk” centric film starring Mark Ruffalo. Even Ruffalo himself has said he would love it but Marvel has remained pretty stoic about any plans for a film. However! In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Ruffalo hinted at the possibility that Marvel Studios maybe considering the idea.

“I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically ‘No!’, and now there is some consideration for it. But there’s still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut. I think the Banner/Hulk storyline is obviously not easy a tough nut to crack.”

Ruffalo was even up for another movie that features The Hulk teaming up with another hero.

“If they do Iron Man 4 and Banner’s in that, that would be great.”

Spike Lee Sued Over “Oldboy” Movie Posters

oldboypostersmall

Spike Lee has been slapped with a copyright infringement lawsuit from artist Juan Luis Garcia regarding Lee’s recent film  reboot of Oldboy. Garcia is aserting that Lee used his proposed movie posters after initially declining to use them and pay the artist.

Garcia claims that he created the posters for the film and offered them to Lee and his Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks production company “access to the posters, and offered Defendants the opportunity to use them to market their film, with the condition precedent that they pay Plaintiff for such use. Defendants never paid Plaintiff.”

However, the ad agency apparently offered a very low amount of money for the work so Garcia withdrew the work. Then, last November, Garcia wrote an open letter to the director saying that he had worked exclusively on the posters for two months and in response to that letter, Lee tweeted,

“I Never Heard Of This Guy Juan Luis Garcia,If He Has A Beef It’s Not With Me.I Did Not Hire Him,Do Not Know Him.Cheap Trick Writing To Me.YO.” One man responded to Lee on Instagram, saying, “Dude pay the graphic artist,” and Lee responded, “Why Should I Pay Someone Who I Never Met Nor Had Any Contact With Ever? He Never Made Any Deal With Me.Why Don’t You Pay Me For Your Stupid Text On Thanksgiving Day?”

According to the lawsuit, it mostly takes issue with the fact that the Oldboy posters were released with the tags, “;© 2013 Spike Lee,”; and “;© 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.”

“This copyright attribution is false, as Plaintiff owns these posters, not anyone else, and the images were not owned or under license to Defendants,” states the complaint (read here). “Moreover, Defendants knew this was false at the time these posters were created, but continued to reproduce and distribute this false information.”

Garcia also claims copyright infringement as well as the more rare claim of a violation under 17 U.S.C. 1202. The latter claim has to do with the alleged alteration of copyright management information. The plaintiff, represented by attorney Douglas Linde, seeks various profits and statutory damages not specified.

The Unofficial Timeline for DC’s Justice League Teases Seven Films

DC-Heroes

The decade(s) of comic book films is not even close to over as Marvel has been monopolizing the box office lately with their cinematic universe. But it looks like DC is getting back in the mix with a new “Justice League” movie.

According to Deadline, DC has plans for seven films including the “Justice League” film and the long-awaited “Wonder Woman” project. Although the official lineup is supposed to be announced at the San Diego Comic-Con, this is what is rumored at the moment.

  • May 2016 – Batman v Superman
  • July 2016 – Shazam
  • Xmas 2016 – Sandman
  • May 2017 – Justice League
  • July 2017 – Wonder Woman
  • Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
  • May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2

“Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments,” Deadline’s Nikki Finke said. “The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [NOT Ryan Reynolds, thank heavens] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge.”

Robert Kirkman Talks “Outcast” and Season 5 of “Walking Dead”

Robert-Kirkman-03-photo-by-Megan-Mack-photo-credit-required

Robert Kirkman, the creator of “The Walking Dead,” recently spoke out about the upcoming fifth season of the AMC series that is based on his comics as well as the new series based on his comic series, “Outcast.”

“Outcast” will be released at the end of June will follow similar themes to “The Walking Dead.” The title, released via Kirkman’s Skybound imprint, is already out-selling his other series.

Kirkman explains what kind of similarities “Outcast” and “The Walking Dead” share.

I think that both of them strive to be very real examinations of a very fantastical and unreal kind of situation. Although I would argue that demonic possession is certainly something that there’s evidence to support the possibility that it could be a real phenomenon — much more so than zombies. I think zombies are probably definitely never going to happen (Laughs). I think people may wish that they would. But they’re both stories about very real people against these horrific backdrops. That’s something that I really enjoy doing.

For those who are caught up with comic series of “The Walking Dead,” the series has started a new story after a time jump. We see Rick re-established in a larger society. Kirkman spoke about whether he knows how the story will end and its effects on creating “Outcast.”

I’ve known roughly how The Walking Dead [comic] ends for a while now. It’s something that I took my time figuring out but I always knew the direction I was going in. A few years ago the end cemented itself. But that’s something that is very far off into the future and it’s an ending that doesn’t really work unless I take my time getting there. I feel like, as withOutcast, the stakes on The Walking Dead have continued to escalate, and in recent issues, we’ve revealed the full extent of the world building that we’re planning to do long-term, and just how important these characters that we’ve been following are going to turn out to be in the history of civilization. That’s a pretty exciting prospect and a really cool change and shift in the narrative of that story.

Unlike “The Walking Dead,” “Outcast” will be a series at Cinemax and Kirkman is actually prepping the potential pilot himself. Kirkman explained how the show would compare to the comics.

There’s definitely going to be a lot similarities, but despite the fact that I’m writing the comic and writing the pilot episode of the series, you will see some pretty big differences. There are certain ways to tell a story, and certain mechanics and things that work really well in comics that don’t work well on television and vice versa. There are certain opportunities to be taken when you adapt something into television, where you have motion and sound, where you can expand on and change things in very cool ways in a manner that wouldn’t have worked so well in comics. To be honest, that’s the fun part and the challenge of saying, “This is going to be moving and there’s going to be actors, and it’s going to have sound, and there are different things to be done.” It’s cool to limit the same story and think about it in a different way.

Even though season 4 of “The Walking Dead” ended on a pretty crazy note, we didn’t see any major characters die, which is surprising in itself. Kirkman tells us what we can expect with season 5 of the show.

It’s always highly likely, though I wouldn’t say that it’s any more likely than it ever is, but it is always extremely likely. We did pull back on the reins a little bit at the end of season four. We’re definitely going to hit the ground running for season five and we really don’t let up very quickly at all. It’s going to be a pretty fast-paced, intense season.

When it comes to rumors about character Glenn possibly meeting his maker, Kirkman unfortunately did not confirm nor deny the rumors.

I absolutely love it. It means people care and people are paying attention. So keep those rumors flying!

Kirkman also commented on the addition of Seth Gilliam to a currently unconfirmed role.

Every season we try to bring in new characters that add something in their own way to the cast, much in the way that Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) brought a new narrative and more character dynamics to the show. Seth Gilliam’s character — whoever it may be — brings a lot of conflict and really cool character traits to the mix.

The Walking Dead returns in October. A specific premiere date will likely be announced at Comic-Con. Outcast No. 1 is released June 25 via Image Comics. Check out an advance look at Outcast No. 1, below.

Adam McKay in Talks to Direct “Ant-Man”

antmandate

After Edgar Wright departed as director from the upcoming Marvel project, Ant-Man, the studio has been scrambling to find a new director. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Adam McKay is in talks to be taking over the project.

McKay is most known as the director behind the “Anchorman” films.

Both Marvel and Wright said the director’s exit was due to creative differences, and sources say Marvel had been unhappy with Wright’s take on the project for weeks (considering the film was supposed to start shooting June 2 and has now been put on hiatus.) Despite the fact that Wright willingly made revisions to the script he wrote with Joe Cornish earlier in the process, sources say the new rewrites were made without his input, and he walked after receiving Marvel’s new version of the script early the week of May 19.

The cast for the adaptation features Paul Rudd as the title character alongside Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson.

Ant-Man is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015. Marvel states that Wright’s leaving would not affect the release date.

Channing Tatum Will Star as Gambit in a Solo Film

tatum-gambit-3

Who should play Gambit in a solo film? If you said anyone other than Channing Tatum you would correct. However, that is not the case. It was revealed yesterday that Tatum has been cast as Gambit which will debut in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse right before appearing in his own solo spin-off film.

At the moment there is no writer or director attached to the project though it is possible that the film could be he “Untitled FOX Marvel Movie” which is currently set for release on July 18, 2018. (However, this has not been confirmed.)

The character of Gambit was created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in 1990. “Gambit” is a New Orleans native mutant quickly became a fan favorite due to his kinetic energy manipulation abilities and penchant for stealing. The character’s only big screen appearance to date (outside his name being featured as an Easter egg in X2) was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch.

Some of the titles that are being adapted include “Sandman” which will star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and “Fables” which has Nikolaj Arcel attached to direct.

scalped-bar-640

The comic book series to television genre is getting another installment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera’s “Scalped” is being developed by the cable network WGN America.

The series was first published in 2007 under DC Comics. The beginning of the 60-issue series is officially described as follows:

Fifteen years ago, Dashiell “Dash” Bad Horse ran away from a life of abject poverty and utter hopelessness on the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation searching for something better. Now he’s come back home armed with nothing but a set of nunchucs, a hell-bent-for-leather attitude and one dark secret, to find nothing much has changed on “The Rez” — short of a glimmering new casino, and a once-proud people overcome by drugs and organized crime. Is he here to set things right or just get a piece of the action?
