City Of Bones Film Adds New Actor To The Cast

A quasi-main character from the popular YA novel series “City of Bones” has been cast in the upcoming film adaption. Irish actor, Robert Sheehan will be playing Simon Lewis in the film opposite of Lily Collins as protagonist Clary Fray and Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland.

Sheehan is most known for his role on the television series “Misfits.” The news was announced via the author, Cassandra Clare’s official Tumblr earlier today. She revealed the news after fans were able to get the hashtag #WeWantSimon to be a trending topic on the social media site Twitter.

The novel follows Clary Fray, a seemingly ordinary human girl who discovers that she can see supernatural beings that no one else can and gets drawn into the world of the Shadowhunters, humans who hunt and kill demons. Campbell-Bower is male lead and Clary’s love interest Jace Wayland, while West plays fellow Shadowhunter Isabelle. Sheehan’s Simon is Clary’s best friend who harbors a secret crush on her and plays in a band. He, too, gets drawn into the secret underground world of the Shadowhunters in New York City.

Director Harald Zwart will direct the film in Toronto this summer, aiming for an August 23, 2013 release.

City of Bones Adaptation Reveals New Director

The news that fans have been waiting for has finally been revealed. Harald Zwart, of Karate Kid fame, is set to direct the big screen adaptation of City of Bones.

While the director had remained a mystery for several months, it has finally be released now that the film is moving forward. Screenwriter Marlene King recently met with Zwart and the producers of the feature, and author of the novel, Cassandra Clare, also met with them and later confirmed that adaptation was moving forward.

Here’s the official synopsis for Mortal Instruments:

CLARY FRAY (Lily Collins) is an ordinary Brooklyn teenager until the night she meets the mysteriously tattooed JACE, who turns out to be a half-angel warrior known as a Shadowhunter. When Clary finds out her mother JOCELYN has been abducted, she desperately hopes Jace will be able to help. After a whirling golden portal transports her across time and space in a heartbeat, Clary realizes she too has the powers of the Shadowhunters. But can she harness them in time to save her mother?

Clary, Jace and their fellow Shadowhunters endure one breathtaking battle after another against vampire, warlocks and demons—only to discover Jocelyn hid a terrible secret from the fiercest warrior of all: VALENTINE. Cast out from the world of Shadowhunters, Valentine abducted Jocelyn believing she had a powerful tool known as the Mortal Cup. Using her newfound gifts, Clary finds the Cup, only to be brutally betrayed and forced to relinquish it.

Still reeling from this setback and racing to save Jocelyn before it’s too late, Clary finds herself caught in a battle between forces she barely understands. Based on the best-selling series by Cassandra Clare, MORTAL INSTRUMENTS is a magnificent urban fantasy rich in detail and suspense, about a girl’s journey to the darkest corners of the underworld to save those she loves

The film tapped Lily Collins to star as Clary over a year ago, and it seems she is still locked in for the film. Starring opposite of her is  Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland.

City of Bones is the first novel in the series written by Clare, and if all goes well, there is a possibility the whole series will be adapted.

It has also been confirmed that filming for the project is set to begin on August 15th in Toronto.

City of Bones Finally Moves Forward With New Director

Since Screen Gems dropped the project earlier this year, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the film adaptation of City of Bones, the first novel of the Mortal Instruments Series.

Now it has been revealed that the new screenwriter, a new producer, and the new director are all meeting with author Cassandra Clare.

Marlene King, who rewrote the script revealed the news last week. Apparantly, Clare has already spoken to the new director and is now prepared to meet with him within the next few weeks.

The new director has also already met with the lead actors of the film adaptation, Lilly Collins who will play Clary Fray, and Jamie Campbell Bower, who is set to play Jace Wayland. And he apparently loves them both.

Clare has said that the producers have made it a point to include her in the process which has led to the new meeting with everyone.

She recently wrote this regarding the project:

I just wanted to say is that I am so glad that Marlene is meeting with the director and the producers at Constantin. I know lots of rumours have been floating around and I tend to be really quiet, but I want to make sure that when I tell you something, it’s true to the best of my knowledge. The movie industry runs on rumors and innuendo (this is why IMDB is basically useless till a movie goes into production and they lock down the page) and while things can always change, I want to be passing along info that’s as final as things in Hollywood get.

I have a little bit of news that’s exciting — and not even the news I was talking about yesteday! — I will be flying to Los Angeles from Mexico to meet with the new director. I can’t tell you who he is yet, but I’ve talked to him on the phone and he’s had a lot of great insight into the characters, really smart thoughts about the filming, and he had great thoughts about Jace, talking about how he wasn’t just an action hero, he was a layered, complex character with a lot of depth (oh and he has met with Lily and Jamie and he loves them.)

I’m excited he and the producers have made a special point to meet with me, go over concept sketches, talk about the characters and their direction — that doesn’t happen all that often with authors in Hollywood, that we get included that much. However I don’t want to jinx anything, so I’m going to be vague until things are definite. I will keep you updated as much as I can — I know it’s hard to wait; believe me, it’s hard for me, too. I’m actually really glad that we moved on from Screen Gems because things have been proceeding at enormous speed since then and I hope to have some concrete stuff to tell you soon. In the meantime I promise photos of my crazy trip to LA. :)

While we aren’t sure who the new director is, they should be revealing that soon. This is definitely a big step forward for the project which has been in the works for years without moving forward. Hopefully this director will do it justice, but with the author involved, it is a good sign.

A Girl’s Read of City of Bones – Part 2

Part two of this novel, was crazy long. It was a major section of plot for the story. I made this section super long, because I had to. I got really into toward the end of the section. It got pretty intense. I hope when them movie comes out, they take this part seriously and do it right. Continue reading

A Girl’s Read of City of Bones – Part 1

I, as a young woman, love romantic stories (and yes, even supernatural romantic stories) so I spent my summer reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. It is book 1 of The Mortal Instruments book series and it is currently being made into a movie. The book is separated into three major sections so that is what sections I chose to break up my thoughts on the novel.

::::Spoilers Ahead::::

My first thoughts were, why the hell is a 15 year old going to club called, Pandemonium. That just seems dangerous and scary. I get it, there are bouncers and security measures, but she’s only 15 going to a dance club filled with ravers, goth kids, and the like.  I know city life is a little different for teenagers but clubs seem like the something they should wait on. Right?
