CBS has officially given the greenlight to a series based on the “Supergirl” comic series. And they must feel pretty confident in it because the network completely ignored the “in development” stage and just ran with a series order for the project.

Supergirl is a character from DC Comics. The series will follow Kara Zor-El. She was born on Krypton however she escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

“Supergirl” will be a one hour drama from the production company that created “Arrow” and “The Flash” for The CW. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler will be serving as writers as well as executive producers with Sarah Schechter.

Currently, there are no plans to have a crossover with the DC series on The CW but that doesn’t mean it will never happen.

There is no word yet on when “Supergirl” will enter production or who the studio is looking to star in the series.

Netflix has officially renewed their original series “Hemlock Grove” for a third and final season. The series is based on the novel of the same name written by Brian McGreevy.

In the second season, the town of Hemlock Grove continued to come to grips with the shocking massacre incurred by one of its deadliest creatures. Roman (Bill Skarsgard) and Peter (Landon Liboiron) faced new responsibilities and the realities that come with adulthood. Roman struggled with his relationship with his mother (Famke Janssen) as he wrestled with his unwanted Upir birthright and the disappearance of his sister, Shelley (Madeleine Martin). Peter moved in with Destiny (Kaniehtiio Horn) and was forced to get a job after his mother was sent away. Meanwhile, in search of a new life, newcomer Miranda Cates (Madeline Brewer), embarked on Hemlock Grove with an unknowingly profound effect on Peter and Roman. And Norman (Dougray Scott), still reeling from the loss of his family, faced the harsh truth about those he loved.

Eli Roth, the show’s executive producer stated,

“We are so grateful to the fans of ‘Hemlock Grove’ who have championed the series so intensely over two seasons. We are looking forward to taking the last and final season into some dark and unexpected places, and to giving viewers the killer finale you’d come to expect from ‘Hemlock Grove.'”

Charles H. “Chic” Eglee will return as showrunner for the third season which will have ten episodes.

“We are delighted that our fans have invited us back to explore the fiendish recesses of the human condition for another season. Knowing it will be our last, gives us the opportunity to go out in a mushroom cloud of clever and soul shattering mayhem. See you soon on the twisted streets of Hemlock Grove,” said Eglee.

The third season is expected to premiere on Netflix Instant sometime in 2015.

Guillermo del Toro’s hit new series at FX has officially been picked up for a second season. John Landgraf, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions announced the news today. He also said that season 2 would appear on FX sometime in the summer on 2015.

“The Strain” tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Landgraf said,

“We’ve never had any doubts about The Strain. Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

“The Strain” has become one of the most watched original shows for the network, ranking as the #1 new series on cable (broadcast or premium) in 2014 in delivery of Adults 18-49. del Toro commented on the renewal stating,

“I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus! Working with Carlton, Chuck [Hogan] and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes—the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species.”

The series is based on the book series co-written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
