Wonder Woman Director Drops Out

WonderWomanMain

Michelle MacLaren has announced her departure as director from the production of the upcoming Wonder Woman film. MacLaren cited creative differences as the reason for her departure.

The studio released a statement,

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.”

MacLaren is an Emmy-winning director who joined the project in November of last year. Warner Bros. had spent months searching for a female director specifically to take lead on the super heroine project.

Wonder Woman would have been the director’s feature film debut but she is known for working on several critically acclaimed projects including The X-Files, HBO’s Game of Thrones and multiple AMC productions like The Walking DeadBreaking Bad and spin-off Better Call Saul.

It is interesting that MacLaren has departed a comic book film project. Four years earlier, Patty Jenkins was set to direct Thor: The Dark World, but she left the film ALSO citing creative differences. MacLaren would have been only the second female to direct a comic-book superhero film, joining Lexi Alexander’s 2008 Punisher: War Zone. What are these “creative differences” that are regularly driving female directors away from comic book films?

Currently, Wonder Woman remains in line to hit theaters in 2017. It stars Gal Gadot in the titular role who will make her first appearance in the role in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,

Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood Is Being Adapted for Television

The iconic true crime novel is making its way to television. The novel, “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote has been optioned for a television adaptation by the Weinstein Company.

“In Cold Blood” details the 1959 murders of Herbert Clutter, a farmer from Holcomb, Kansas, his wife, and two of their four children. When Capote learned of the quadruple murder, before the killers were captured, he decided to travel to Kansas and write about the crime. He traveled to the town with his childhood friend and fellow author Harper Lee, and together they interviewed local residents and investigators assigned to the case and took thousands of pages of notes. The killers, Richard “Dick” Hickock and Perry Smith, were arrested six weeks after the murders, and Capote ultimately spent six years working on the book.

The television adaptation is being produced through TWC while working closely with Gary Oldman and Douglas Urbanski’s Flying Studios.

This is the fourth time “In Cold Blood” will be adapted from the novel. In 1967, a film was released, directed by Richard Brooks. Then the crimes themselves using parts of the book, have been adapted for film on three separate occasions, the last of which was Capote starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote, which told the story of the relationship between the author and the convicted murderers.

Reports say that Kevin Hood will be writing the script for the series. Hood is best known for penning the Jane Austin biopic, Becoming Jane.

TWC has not announced what network will air the series or when we can expect it to premiere.

The project comes after the immense popularity of “The Jinx” documentary on HBO that followed the murder investigations in connection with Robert Durst while interviewing his side of the story. FX also recently started production on Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story. The first season will follow O.J. Simpson’s murder trial.

More information on In Cold Blood can be expected as the script inches towards completion.

NEW Poster For JURASSIC WORLD Released!

unnamed

As everyone is gearing up and getting exciting for the upcoming new installment in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, director Colin Trevorrow debuted a new poster for Jurassic World.

The poster shows Bryce Dallas Howard in her role as Claire Dearing coming face to face with the dinosaur known as the Indominus Rex.

Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar, an island located off Central America’s Pacific Coast, near Costa Rica, now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. This new park is owned by the Masrani Global Corporation. Owen Grady, a member of the park’s on-site staff, conducts behavioral research on a group of Velociraptors, known as Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo. At the corporation’s request, the park’s geneticists create a genetically modified hybrid mutant dinosaur, known as Indominus rex, to boost visitor attendance (despite the creature having cannibalized its own sibling). Claire Dearing is the park’s operations manager. Her nephews, Zach and Gray, are visiting the island when the hybrid escapes and are subsequently caught up in the creature’s deadly rampage.

Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World.  Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure from a screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly.  Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley join the team as producers.

Alongside Howard, the film features an incredible cast including (my imaginary boyfriend) Chris Pratt, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong, and Judy Greer.

Jurassic World opens in theaters and our hearts on June 12.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is in process! Courtesy of James Gunn, the writer and director behind the first film, we have learned a few details about the upcoming sequel that everyone can’t wait for.

Despite being close-lipped on the plot for the sequel, Gunn revealed that the sequel will begin shooting next February at Pinewood Atlanta Studios. The filming location is a new one for the franchise. The first film filmed in London with several scenes taking place though out locations in the city. Currently, Captain America: Civil War is filming at the same Atlanta studio where Ant-Man also recently wrapped principal photography.

According to Gunn, the script is currently in progress and the film treatment for the sequel has already been sent over to Marvel. Though Gunn did not reveal any plot details for the sequel. However, he did say that Karen Gillan would reprise her role as Nebula, the arch nemesis and adopted sister of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) for an appearance in the film. He was also confident that her appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would not require her to shave her head like she did for the first film.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a premiere date for May 5, 2017.

let_the_right_one_in_main

There have already been two film adaptations of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel Let the Right One In but now there will be a television series based on the novel about a pre-adolescent vampire and her outcast best friend. It comes as a bit of a surprise that we are getting a third remake of the novel in less than a decade.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, A&E has acquired the television rights to the original novel. The channel won the rights after a bidding war with Showtime to produce and broadcast the forthcoming series.

“Let the Right One In” the series will be headed by Jeff Davis, who has previously worked on the series “Teen Wolf.”

The series is still in development so details are very scarce. There is no word on who the studio is eyeing to star or an anticipated release date.

Universal is Adapting Mark Millar’s Chrononauts Into a Feature Film

chrononauts-1-featured

Mark Millar is no stranger to having his comic books adapted into feature films. So, it is no surprise that yet another of his works is making the way to the silver screen and they have picked quite an exciting comic book to make the jump. “Chrononauts” has been announced for adaptation courtesy of Universal.

“Chrononauts” follows two friends, Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly, who will mess with the theoretical science of time travel during the 1960s race to space. After discovering the ability to mess with time travel, the two buddies must decide how to use the new technology. They can either help mankind or explore the advantages to their own selfish end. The story will show the consequences of messing with such technological capabilities.

Millar is most known in the movie world for the adaptation “Sin City” but the films “Wanted,” “Kick-Ass,” and “Kingsman” were all based on his comic book series as well.

There is currently no word on when Universal is planning to begin production on “Chrononauts” but it is expected to move without delay given the hot commodity that time travel films are currently. They also haven’t revealed whether Millar will be involved with film development.

Robert A. Heinlein‘s Novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress Becoming Movie

moon is a harsh mistress

The science fiction novel, “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress,” written by Robert A. Heinlein, is getting the movie treatment thanks to director Bryan Singer. The movie is reportedly being retitled Uprising. The story follows a lunar colony that revolts against the rulers of Earth.

“The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” was initially released in 1966 by the prolific science fiction author. It later worn the Hugo Award, though it would be the author’s last win.

Singer is attached to collaborate with the studio to produce the project with possibilities to direct as well. The film is being written by “Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim.

This is the third time it has been attempted to adapt this particular novel into a movie. Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio had written a script to be produced by DreamWorks Studios. Another version from Phoenix Pictures had producer David Heyman attached. Both films never came to fruition and the rights to the novel eventually returned to Heinlein’s estate.

This is not the first novel by Heinlein to be adapted for the silver screen. In 1998, The Puppet Masters starring Donald Sutherland was directed by Stuart Orme. His most popular novel, Starship Troopers, would also be later adapted by Paul Verhoeven. Earlier this year, his short story All You Zombies was adapted into Predestination starring Ethan Hawke.

Blade Runner Sequel Writer Will Pen Murder on the Orient Express Remake

Murder_on_the_Orient_Express_First_Edition_Cover_1934

When it was first announced that there would be a remake of iconic film, Murder on the Orient Express, there were questions of who would end up penning the script based on the Agatha Christie novel. The original story of the Orient Express revolved around Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who is tasked with the investigation of a murder that took place in his train car.

The remake was first announced last year and it was pretty quickly revealed that it was to be produced by Ridley Scott with Simon Kinberg but the writer seat remained vacant until now. This week, it was announced that Michael Green will write the script.

Green recently just finished writing the sequel to another famous film, Blade Runner. But he is also known for working on the much unloved superhero project Green Lantern.

This is the second time the famous mystery novel is being adapted into a film. The first time being in 1974 by Sidney Lumet. This classic film had a stellar cast including Albert Finney in the lead role and Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Colin Blakely, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave and Michael York all playing various supporting roles as potential suspects.

Currently, there is no director signed on to take on the murder mystery film. Hopefully this means careful consideration is going into this project. There is also no word on who the studio is eyeing to star in the film.
