According to a report from Deadline, Jon Spaihts is currently in talks to write the script for the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange.

Making his first appearance in 1963, Doctor Strange follows a brilliant neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, whose journey begins after a car accident. Through his recovery, Strange starts on a path to become the “master of the Mystic Arts.”

There is no confirmed actor in line to play Doctor Strange though it is rumored to be between Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jared Leto.

Spaihts is most known for his science fiction work including 2011’s The Darkest Hour and most recently his work on Prometheus which he worked on with Damon Lindelof. He is currently working on the Mummy reboot with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson. The first draft of the film was written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

Spaihts tweeted about the negotiations as you can see below:

Michael Douglas Cast as Ant-Man (And I Feel Conflicted)

37th AFI Life Achievement Award - Arrivals

Marvel has officially cast Michael Douglas the role of Hank Pym AKA Ant-Man in the upcoming movie. I guess Marvel didn’t listen to my pleas to cast Simon Pegg in the lead role. I feel conflicted.

Douglas will star opposite Paul Rudd (now confirmed to be playing Scott Lang) in the Edgar Wright film, set for release on July 31, 2015.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, said,

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Ant-Man will begin production soon in Georgia. It will be directed by Wright who also wrote the script with Joe Cornish. The film, which is supposed to launch “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release.

Wright also added,

“The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang,” Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago in an interview that he confirmed this morning via Twitter is still accurate. “So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60’s, in sort of ‘Tales to Astonish’ mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.”

Paul Rudd Cast In Lead Role In Ant-Man

Paul Rudd-Photos

Paul Rudd, my secret BFF, has officially been cast in the leading role for the upcoming Marvel Studios project, Ant-Man. Rudd has been rumored to be the top choice for the titular role since earlier this year but last night, The Wrap reported that Rudd will be playing Hank Pym in the July 31, 2015 release.

Ant-Man will be begin production early next year and is set to be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.

It is also rumored that Wright’s original plans for the film called for both Pym and the later Ant-Man of the comics, Scott Lang, to appear in the feature.

“The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang,” Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago.

Ant-Man will be the first film in the “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release.

Edgar Wright Thinks “Ant-Man” Will Surprise People

marvel-studios-logo2

Edgar Wright’s upcoming addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man, is fast approaching its 2015 release date but fans actually know very little about the film. Recently, Wright, spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the film and why he thinks the film will surprise fans.

Wright said,

“I want to make him into a badass. No, I always liked that comic and I always thought it would be an interesting thing to see in live-action. That’s why I [showed] that Comic-Con test that we did for Marvel, to show this fight scene like a proof of content, like this is what the action is going to look like. I think a lot of people who maybe don’t know the character sort of see that test and go, “Oh, right, I get it. It’s like an action film,” so that’s the idea. I think people will be surprised by what kind of movie it is, and so in that respect it’s something that I know is going to stand out because it’s got a very different story and is a very different movie.”

He also confirmed that the tone of the film would remain in line with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Well, I think the Marvel movies are funny, you know? I think generally the Iron Man films and The Avengers is funny. They’re not ever in the comedy section, but they are funny and entertaining, so I think it’ll be something in a similar vein to that.”

Walt Disney Pictures has scheduled a July 31, 2015 release for the film, which was written by Wright and Joe Cornish.
