Lady Sif Returning to Agents of Shield

sif-shield-header

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will see the return of Lady Sif in an upcoming episode of the new season. The “Thor” film series character is played by Jaimie Alexander and she has previously crossed over into the Marvel series in Episode 15 of season one. According to Marvel Entertainment, in the upcoming episode Lady Sif will have no idea who she is, who Thor is, and will appear without her iconic Asgardian armor.

Executive producer Jeffrey Bell said,

“Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we’re going to have fun with that. It’ll give us some much-needed humor in a season that’s been full of betrayal and death. Sif can’t even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson [Clark Gregg] and his team will try to help her figure all that out…We’ve been dealing a lot with space aliens and Inhumans in our last few episodes—things our Earth-bound heroes just don’t know much about. They need help understanding what’s really going on. Sif’s memory—what’s left of it—will come in very handy.”

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is set to return on March 3. It is rumored that Lady Sif will appear in the episode titled “Thor: Ragnarok” though it has not been confirm by ABC or Marvel.

Read The Official Synopsis for ‘Thor: The Dark World’

Dust off your glasses and get ready to read all about it. Chris Hemsworth is returning to the big screen as America’s favorite thunder god in Thor: The Dark World and today we have the official synopsis for the action/adventure film.

Coming November 8, 2013, the movie will be directed by Alan Taylor.

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book Journey into Mystery #83 in August, 1962.

Thor: The Dark World is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Jaimie Alexander, who plays Sif, was in the news not too long ago, having sustained an injury while filming. All reports indicate, thankfully, that the actress is okay. You’ll also notice a familiar name up in the synopsis. It belongs to Zachary Levi, a.k.a. Chuck Bartowski of TV’s Chuck. What an awesome casting decision! Levi is Fandral, a member of the Warriors Three. He was acted in the previous Thor Joshua Dallas in the role due to his commitment on Once Upon a Time. Actually, I hear the role was originally offered to Levi, but he was all tied up filming Chuck. So, I doubt there are any hard feelings between the actors. The last thing we need is another Terrance Howard versus Don Cheadle hubbub over the role of Rhodey in the Iron Man franchise.

It has been a very exciting time for fans of Marvel comics and film. First we saw our heroes in solo gigs for films like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, and then the splendid Joss Whedon directed them in one mighty blockbuster, The Avengers. Now, the story continues and more solo sequels debut and eventually an Avengers 2 will be delivered with a big bow on it.

Here’s what you can expect. Its more than just a second dose of Thor.

Iron Man 3 from director Shane Black
Thor: The Dark World from director Alan Taylor
Captain America: The Winter Soldier from directors Anthony and Joe Russo
Guardians of the Galaxy from director James Gunn
The Avengers 2 from director Joss Whedon
Ant-Man TBA

Am I the only true believe that’s ready to see a Dr. Strange movie!?

The Marvel Studios Comic-Con Panel Announces Big News

The Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel got off to a big start this weekend when they announced the full titles for the upcoming Thor and Captain America sequels, and showed concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy.

They also announced the team for the planned Marvel Studios movie, as well as showing Edgar Wright’s test footage for Ant-Man.

The Thor sequel will be called Thor: The Dark World. Captain America’s sequel will be called Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After unveiling some concept art, the panel announced the team that will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy: Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Racoon and Gamorra.

This is essentially the same line-up as the group that will appear in Marvel Comics’ Avengers Assemble, according to ComingSoon. Wright then came on stage to show test footage he had filmed for the upcoming film Ant-Man, though the film has not yet been cast.

ComingSoon is keeping a live blog of Marvel’s actions at Comic-Con. To follow the updates, click here.

Marvel Cinematic Blu-Ray Collection Revealed

In a film where so many superhero story lines culminate into one amazing battle, it is no surprise that the Blu-Ray collection will have to be equally spectacular. It was announced that Marvel’s The Avengers, which is still number two at the box office, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray later this year and with it comes a worthy collector’s edition.

There is no official release date yet, but Amazon is advertising a related product. A Blu-Ray collection titled Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One- Avengers Assembled will be a 10-disc set.

The tentative list of content is as follows:

  • Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
  • Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
  • Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
  • Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
  • The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
  • Iron Man (Blu-ray)
  • Bonus Disc- The Phase One Archives (Blu-ray)
  • Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The list also includes the below image, which suggests the set’s design was inspired by the briefcase Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury uses to transport the Cosmic Cube.

The set is scheduled to be revealed July 15 and you can currently pre-order the collection for $153.00.

Marvel’s The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

This new film is being directed by the (incredibly amazing) Joss Whedon and and sports an all star cast.  It includes:

  • Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man:
A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with a mechanical suit of armor of his own invention.
  • Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:
A World War II veteran who was enhanced to the peak of human physicality by an experimental serum.
  • Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk:
A genius scientist who, because of exposure to gamma radiation, transforms into a monster when enraged or excited. Ruffalo was cast after negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton broke down.

  • Lou Ferrigno will voice the Hulk.
  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor:
The god of thunder based on the Norse deity of the same name. Hemsworth was cast as part of a multiple movie deal. Hemsworth stated that he was able to maintain the strength he built up for Thor by increasing his food intake, consisting of a number of chicken breasts, fish, steak and eggs a day.
  • Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow:
A highly trained spy working for the international peacekeeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye:
A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and master archer known in the comics as the “World’s Greatest Marksman”. Renner said it was a very physical role and that he trained physically and practiced archery as much as possible in preparation.
  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki:
Thor’s adoptive brother and nemesis based on the deity of the same name.
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:
The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who was revealed in previous films to be coordinating the “Avenger Initiative”. Jackson was brought to the project with a deal containing an option to play the character in up to nine Marvel films.
  • Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill:
A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Jackson’s Nick Fury.

Another New TV Spot for Marvel’s The Avengers Back in Action!

Marvel Studios has released another “new” TV spot for the highly-anticipated movie, Marvel’s The Avengers.  I really like how they’re really stressing the “Marvel” portion.  It really gets away from the trademark issues that were happening in the UK over the use of the name, “The Avengers.”

As this is the 6th television spot that has been recently released, it too has its own focus, this time being Captain America, titled “Back in Action”.  Yes, some of the footage has already been seen, but there are a few snippets and text that make this spot original.

The film will hit screens in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on May 4.  Directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.”

The new film sports an all star cast.  It includes:

Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man:

A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with a mechanical suit of armor of his own invention.  Becoming a superhero is obviously the best way to make people forget one’s a drunk and a reformed arms dealer.  Honestly, Stark needs to run for President now.

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:

A World War II veteran who’s convinced his only way to help in the war effort is to do drugs.  As the poster boy for steroid use, Steve Rogers is enhanced to the peak of human physicality by an experimental serum.  While the spot focuses on the Captain as the team leader, maybe they should have gone with someone more… PC.  In the Ultimate series, the Captain doesn’t buy that he’s in the future.  How does he arrive to this conclusion?  He bases it on the premise that there aren’t any African-American soldiers who’ve made the rank of Colonel.  “Must be a Nazi trick!”  Next thing you know, women will be able to vote.

Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk:

A genius scientist who somehow gets caught in the blast of his own science experiment.  Forget fail safes and controlled environments.  Due to the exposure to gamma radiation, Banner is transformed into a monster when enraged or excited. Ruffalo was cast after negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton broke down.

Lou Ferrigno; the man behind the monster in the 1977 television series of the Hulk, will voice “The Hulk.”  Lots of screaming and maybe some monosyllabic words.  “Hulk… Smash!”

Chris Hemsworth as Thor:

The god of thunder and disco era armor.  Thor which is based on the Norse deity of the same name is more a space alien than; thus saving religious issues being brought up in the movie. Hemsworth stated that he was able to maintain the strength he built up for Thor by increasing his food intake, consisting of a number of chicken breasts, fish, steak and eggs a day.  Fine and dandy really, but does an actor ever have to pig out and get obese for their role?  Probably, but not to be made of eye candy for those that like their men made of abs.  Now excuse me while I go back to eating this tub of ice cream.

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow:

A highly trained spy working for the international peacekeeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. “Her superpower set is using a gun and launching a luchador wrestling technique that disables men with her swinging crotch.”

Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye:

A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and master archer known in the comics as the “World’s Greatest Marksman”. While originally a superhero with a crippling obsession with bows and arrows, Hawkeye has had some proper reconstruction of his superhero background.  Now his abilities are due to his specials eyes.  Better than lasik, operations have allowed Hawkeye to squint his way into seeing his targets; his eyes utilize more muscles to constantly change the way he sees over long distance.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki:

Thor’s adoptive brother and nemesis based on the deity of the same name. Man, how did Odin the All Father not see any of this coming?  I thought he had a plan for everything.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:

The baddest director to ever walk the street for S.H.I.E.L.D.  The Colonel was revealed in previous films to be coordinating the “Avenger Initiative” which I thought was the training program for potential Avengers.   While he forgot to recruit Spider-Man and the Wolverine, Jackson was brought to the project with a deal containing an option to play the character in up to nine Marvel films.

Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill:

A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Jackson’s Nick Fury.  While in the comic she is pretty much a control freak and a raging bitch, I just don’t buy Smulders in the role.  This is not “How I Met Your Mother”.

AMC Theaters Unleashes an Ultimate Marvel Marathon

AMC Theaters has announced today that they will be holding an all-day Ultimate Marvel Marathon on May 3 in select cities. The event that will start at 11:30 AM, will show five previous movies from Marvel Studios, beginning with Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, in that order. Mind you that these movies are the ones that Marvel acknowledges as being tied into The Avengers movie. This will culminate towards a midnight showing of The Avengers.

You can watch all six movies as a special movie package for the one time price of $40, that you can purchase now from select AMC theaters.

Boston Common 19 Boston, MA

Burbank 16 Burbank, CA

Downtown Disney 12 Anaheim, CA

Aventura 24 Aventura, FL

Empire 25 New York, NY

Garden State 16 Paramus, NJ

Downtown Disney 24 Lake Buena Vista, FL

Metreon 16 San Francisco, CA

Alderwood 16 Lynnwood, WA

Tysons Corner 16 McLean, VA

Depending on how ticket sales go, I’m sure there will be more theaters announced; AMC says on March 16th; and more tickets will go on sale the same day.

There are several reasons why this is a good and bad idea.

To begin, a person will spend $40 for the honor, nay, the privilege of being the first to watch new super hero movie. This will include a long lineup that begins well before the 11:30AM start time, as hard core fans camp out the night in a line up, all in attempts to jockey for the best seats in the house. You can definitely expect there will be many people in attendance so you will have to be prepared to spend the evening in a cramped busy place.

Yes, like the Rocky Horror Picture show fan base, this movie event will draw in cosplayers. So if you are someone who that might make you uncomfortable, then you might want to stay at home. On the other hand, if you love cosplaying (or at least don’t mind it) then you will probably have a great time here!

Then comes concessions. This is how the theater makes it money back. During the thirteen some odd hours of being cooped in a pig pen like atmosphere, people are going to want to eat. Hopefully there will be unlimited refills on all large sized drinks, because $20 to $30 for popcorn, candy and a drink is a lot of money to be spending. Then again, can you last that long without real food? Woe to the person who sits next to someone who’s smuggled in tin foil wrapped food. The crinkling of bags and foil throughout the theater will drive everyone mad.

The best argument going for why this is a great idea is for the experience and the atmosphere. Somehow the expected camaraderie of what may be a nerd support group is suppose to make the entire experience worthwhile. Who doesn’t love experiencing things like this with others who feel the same as you do? Having others there who are enjoying it as much as you, can make this event even more fun for attendees.

Frankly, the only thing that makes this idea seem bad for me, is that it might be tough being there all day (but anyone who has camped out for a premiere will not find this a problem) and the large crowds of people this is sure to attract. But in the end, true superhero fans and self-proclaimed geeks/nerds will find this a fantastic night and definitely worth the money to attend.

New Poster for The Avengers Revealed

A new poster has hit the internet for the upcoming movie The Avengers, only one day before the new trailer kicks off. Adapted from Marvel comics, the Avengers are a team of superheroes who gather together to battle problems that each singly can not.

The eye catching poster features the main cast in in their superhero glory, posing ridiculously as they would in comic books. I’m more surprised that Black Widow isn’t showing more cleavage or more in a cheesecake position. It would have been more inline with the comic book industry standards of, “making it big.” Go google “black widow comic” and take a look. It seems that all superheroines have their hips permanently locked and should have problems moving. As silly as the poses are for the Avengers, it still strikes a chord of badassery. At least it’s not the Ginyu Force team pose.

The backdrop for the poster shows the heroes set in what appears to be a semi-destroyed New York still under attack. Without their headgear to obscure the star studded faces, the poster shows Chris Evans as the pro-drug use Captain America, Robert Downy Jr. as the Incredibly Pompous Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor; Space God of Thunder and Abs, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; such a bad ass that he stopped being white, Jeremy Renner as the Bullseye version of Hawkeye, and a CGI Hulk who’s alter ego is played by Mark Ruffalo. Then we come back to Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow. Her superpower set is using a gun and launching a luchador wrestling technique that disables men with her swinging crotch.

The Marvel Comics that the movie is actually adapted from is called The Ultimates, a dark and gritty reboot of the Avengers franchise. The comics did well to distance itself from more campy versions of the Avengers and other complex storylines.

Too bad the poster in the U.K will label the upcoming film adaptation as “Avengers Assemble.” Which is understandable because the Brits have their own team of heroes that fight crime called The Avengers.

In the states, the Marvel comics version of The Avengers debuted in September 1963. While in the U.K. Citizens tuned in to watch a spy adventure television show January 1961. It was also called the Avengers which was well produced before Marvel ever started cranking out their comics. So to protect everyone from confusion; and obvious questions about trademarks and copyright laws; it was probably for the best that the movie was renamed. Though I think Ultimate Avengers would have been better move.

One of the more memorable opening sequences of the show explained the spy adventure succinctly:

“Extraordinary crimes against the people, and the state, have to be avenged by agents extraordinary. Two such people are John Steed, top professional, and his partner Emma Peel, talented amateur. Otherwise known as The Avengers.” The opening narration would then cut to the theme song.

Though it happened so long ago, doesn’t make it any less of a cultural icon. I grew up on black and white versions of the show, and still to this day want a sword umbrella. A real proper gentleman one. Not a samurai sword handle umbrella or a shiv umbrella. That and add a intelligent, yet beautiful sidekick wearing a catsuit. That wouldn’t be bad either.

Mrs. Peel, we’re needed.
