Marvel Once Again Considering the Idea of Hulk Solo Film?

oscar-effects-avengers-hulk-fire

Fans have been practically begging Marvel to release a “Hulk” centric film starring Mark Ruffalo. Even Ruffalo himself has said he would love it but Marvel has remained pretty stoic about any plans for a film. However! In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Ruffalo hinted at the possibility that Marvel Studios maybe considering the idea.

“I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically ‘No!’, and now there is some consideration for it. But there’s still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut. I think the Banner/Hulk storyline is obviously not easy a tough nut to crack.”

Ruffalo was even up for another movie that features The Hulk teaming up with another hero.

“If they do Iron Man 4 and Banner’s in that, that would be great.”

Jared Leto Eyeing Doctor Strange?

jared-leto-oscar-gi

The rumors are a-swirling as it is being reported that Jared Leto is being eyed for the lead role in the upcoming Doctor Strange film adaptation.

According to Badass Digest, Marvel “likes” Leto for surgeon-turned-sorcerer Stephen Strange. Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange (known as Doctor Strange) is a superhero created by Marvel. Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.

It was reported last week that Sinister director Scott Derrickson was in talks to direct the film. Marvel has yet to comment, but Derrickson tweeted out a picture of himself with a Dr. Strange comic – stating that it would be his next project.

Leto is an Academy Award winner who is most known for his roles on Dallas Buyers Club, Requiem for a Dream, and Mr. Nobody. He also took home an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

There is no word yet on whether Leto is truly in talks for the role or if the internet (once again) is getting ahead of itself.

GOTG_Payoff_1-Sht_v4b_Lg

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy finally has its Thanos. According to a report from Variety, Josh Brolin has been cast to play the villain in the upcoming feature.

Thanos first appeared in the post-credits scene in “The Avengers,” but is a major villain in the Marvel universe. The character is also expected to appear in one, if not both, of the upcoming “Avengers” sequels.

“We’re definitely tied to ‘Avengers 3,’” director James Gunn recently said.

Guardians of the Galaxy  hits theaters Aug. 1. The cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper.

The film is officially described as follows:

In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer, and Groot. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Adam McKay in Talks to Direct “Ant-Man”

antmandate

After Edgar Wright departed as director from the upcoming Marvel project, Ant-Man, the studio has been scrambling to find a new director. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Adam McKay is in talks to be taking over the project.

McKay is most known as the director behind the “Anchorman” films.

Both Marvel and Wright said the director’s exit was due to creative differences, and sources say Marvel had been unhappy with Wright’s take on the project for weeks (considering the film was supposed to start shooting June 2 and has now been put on hiatus.) Despite the fact that Wright willingly made revisions to the script he wrote with Joe Cornish earlier in the process, sources say the new rewrites were made without his input, and he walked after receiving Marvel’s new version of the script early the week of May 19.

The cast for the adaptation features Paul Rudd as the title character alongside Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson.

Ant-Man is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015. Marvel states that Wright’s leaving would not affect the release date.

Netflix Finds Its Marvel “Daredevil” Star

Owen Sleater, or you might know him by his mortal name Charlie Cox, will now be the next Daredevil! According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Cox will star as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer by day and crime-fighting hero by night on the Netflix and Marvel produced drama.

Cox becomes the first person cast in the drama series based on the Marvel Entertainment comics of the same name. Netflix picked up “Daredevil “– as well as “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” and “Luke Cage” and miniseries “The Defenders” — in a massive pact with Marvel.

“Daredevil” will be 13 episodes for season one. Steven S. DeKnight will now oversee the show and Drew Goddard will serve as executive producer and consultant.

Marvel and Netflix declined comment on Cox’s casting. Official confirmation is expected to come shortly.

Cox is most known for the role that broke my heart, Owen Sleater on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

ABC has officially green lit the Marvel series “Agent Carter.” The series is based on the Captain America one-shot on the Iron Man 3 DVD.

From showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, “Agent Carter” stars Captain America‘s Hayley Atwell and takes place a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. It follows Steve Rogers’ girlfriend Agent Carter (Atwell) as she builds her career as a secret agent while the hero is frozen in ice.

The story is set in 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life — Steve Rogers.

Steve McFeeley, Christopher Marcus and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb exec produce.

Michael Douglas Cast as Ant-Man (And I Feel Conflicted)

37th AFI Life Achievement Award - Arrivals

Marvel has officially cast Michael Douglas the role of Hank Pym AKA Ant-Man in the upcoming movie. I guess Marvel didn’t listen to my pleas to cast Simon Pegg in the lead role. I feel conflicted.

Douglas will star opposite Paul Rudd (now confirmed to be playing Scott Lang) in the Edgar Wright film, set for release on July 31, 2015.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, said,

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Ant-Man will begin production soon in Georgia. It will be directed by Wright who also wrote the script with Joe Cornish. The film, which is supposed to launch “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release.

Wright also added,

“The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang,” Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago in an interview that he confirmed this morning via Twitter is still accurate. “So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60’s, in sort of ‘Tales to Astonish’ mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.”
