First Look at the Animated Adventures of ‘Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United’

If you just can’t get enough of The Avengers, then today’s match up is one you’re going to love. Two members of the all-star Marvel super hero team are together again, this time as stars of an animated adventure. Marvel Animation Studios will release, direct to video, on April 23, 2013, Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. The animated film has a slick look, but don’t take our word for it. Check out this glimpse at the art from the upcoming animated flick.

Three images were released to Entertainment Weekly, just to tease us about this animated film. They depict Hulk and Iron Man; brawn and brains. In Joss Whedon’s 2012 live action blockbuster, The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man teamed up with Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America and Thor to battle Loki with the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. In their Heroes United storyline, Hulk and Tony Stark do battle against the villain called Zzzax.

How did the artists come up with such rich color in these images? Well, the process is described as a hybrid of computer-generated and hand-drawn animation. Kudos to the team! These look great!

Jeph Loeb, executive Vice President of Marvel’s TV division, wanted audiences to know that Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United isn’t intended to be a direct sequel to Marvel’s live action film The Avengers, but “We welcome people to interpret any way they like. In tone and character, we want to follow our best leader.”

With a total gross of something like $1,511,679,547.00, worldwide, yes, I’d agree that Loeb’s definition of The Avengers as a leader is most accurate.

Adrian Pasdar, the actor from TV’s Heroes who portrayed high flier Nathan Petrelli, lends his voice to Iron Man in this picture. Meanwhile, Fred Tatasciore is voicing both Bruce Banner and his Hulk alter ego. Tatasciore is an old pro at giving Hulk his signature sound. Dee Bradley Baker is also rounding out the voice acting cast as the villainous Zzzax. He’s best known for his role as Klaus the fish on American Dad!

This won’t be the last time you see a Heroes United animated title. If folks watch, then Marvel plans to release similar pictures.

It’s our hope that we will start doing more feature-length direct to Blu-ray and DVD stories,” Loeb said. “They’ll more than likely be in team-up situations. We find it works really well when we have big exciting adventures with two or more of our heroes.”

The Hulk really stole the show in The Avengers live action film. I was very skeptical of Mark Ruffalo’s ability to play the haunted scientist, but not unlike Anne Hathaway’s turn in the DC flick, Dark Knight Rises, both actors really pulled off their comic book inspired roles. Even when Hulk was, well, The Hulk, he got some of the biggest laughs from audiences. I’m guilty of viewing the youtube video of Hulk versus Loki in Stark Tower more than once. It’ll be nice to get more Hulk, even in animated format. Teaming him with the witty ladies man, Stark himself, ought to be a hoot.

Which Heroes United team-ups would you like the future to bring? How about an Avengers prequel featuring Hawkeye and Black Widow. Toss in a cameo or two from other Marvel heroes and that would be really awesome. Or Wolverine and Spider-Man? You know they’ve been known to put their names on The Avengers roster, too, in the comic book pages. Of course Captain American and Thor also have some fans.

Mark Millar

Fox Hires Creative Consultant Mark Millar for Marvel Films

Mark Millar

When you are Mark Millar, a down economy and general lack of jobs isn’t really a problem. 20th Century Fox has just officially hired the comic book writer behind such books as The Authority, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Civil War, Wanted, and Kick-Ass, as their new creative consultant for upcoming Marvel projects. That’s good news for comic book movie fans.

Millar’s first assignments will be to work with Fox on developing “new avenues” for The X-Men and The Fantastic Four.

Production President Emma Watts reported, “We are excited to be working with Mark. In addition to his groundbreaking Marvel work, he is simply one of the most original voices in comics today and will be an invaluable resource to us and to our filmmakers as we look for fresh opportunities to innovate within our shared Marvel universe.”

Current upcoming films for the studio are The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of the Future Past, and a new Fantastic Four reboot. If you thought comic book movies were losing steam, you may want to reconsider.

The Wolverine stalled for a while with bad weather in Japan, but it seems like things are now full steam ahead for the Hugh Jackman starrer, being directed by James Mangold.

As for X-Men: Days of the Future Past, this is the title of the uber exciting new sequel to X-Men: First Class. i can’t tell you how ground breaking this film may be, as the young Xavier and his team see what their dark futures may hold. Matthew Vaughn is still at the helm on that project.

Now, it has been some time since Fantastic Four made a cinematic peep, but when newcomer Josh Trank made waves with his film, Chronicle, Fox promised him a shot at a reboot and they are making good on that promise.

The following statement was a part of Millar’s response to his new post.

As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both,” stated Millar. “I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had.”

Millar’s newest titles are The Secret Service, Superior, and Nemesis. Nemesis is already being looked at as a new adaptation for Fox. Kick-Ass 2 is currently shooting in London and Toronto, starring Jim Carrey and Chris Mintz-Plasse. Yes, you read that right. Jim Carrey is involved. Universal wants to develop the War Heroes series with Mike DeLuca as a producer. The Secret Service, which was co-created with Watchmen genius Dave Gibbons, and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn, is also in development. See, it is very good to be Mark Millar. 20th Century Fox Film is of course one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of motion pictures. They’ll make a fine pair.

Marvel’s The Avengers is Back in Theaters for Labor Day

In case you missed your chance to see Joss Whedon’s Marvel’s The Avengers in theaters, you should be happy to know that it was announced earlier today that the film will be returning to theaters for one more week. Marvel Studios officially announced that the popular film will expand back into 1705 theaters for the next week.

However, this may not be just an ordinary re-release into the box office. When Marvel announced the news via their Facebook Page they added a simple reminder: “Don’t forget to stay through the credits…” Why would they remind people to stay through the credits unless there was something new to see?

Written and directed by Joss Whedon, the superhero ensemble stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, and Stellan Skarsgård. The film has earned a massive $1.49 billion at the worldwide box office and it stands as the #3 film of all time globally and domestically.

This announcement also comes off the heels of news that Whedon will be writing and directing an upcoming live action Marvel television series for ABC. The series will focus on S.H.I.E.L.D. who features prominently in the Avengers film. No word yet on who will star in the television series.

Genius Joss Whedon Returning To Television With S.H.I.E.L.D

If you are a fan of directing genius, Joss Whedon, you are probably used to news stories about his shows getting cancelled but it seems that maybe networks are catching on to his large fanbase. ABC has ordered a pilot for “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” a live action television series from Whedon who must recently was the director/writer on Marvel’s The Avengers.

The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers, in which S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to stop Thor’s adoptive brother Loki from subjugating Earth.

The series will be written by Whedon and his frequent partners in crime, brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon is also expected to direct the pilot episode.

“S.H.I.E.L.D.” will be the first live-action Marvel television series to get a greenlight from the networks and is expected to start immediately. The project had been in the works at Marvel TV and ABC Studios for quite a while before it was announced earlier this month by Disney CEO Bob Iger that it had signed an exclusive film and TV deal with Joss Whedon. The deal included him both writing and directing the The Avengers sequel and develop a live-action series for Marvel TV and ABC, both owned by Disney.

Whedon is most known for his amazingly ahead of their time shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dollhouse. Let’s all hope we can keep this show from getting cancelled, amiright?

Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

The Human Fly Buzzes Towards The Big Screen

Marvel Comics continues to dominate at the box office lately, with The Avengers breaking records and the highly anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man about to hit theaters. To continue their streak, Marvel may be venturing into theaters yet again with a film based on comic series “The Human Fly.”

“The Human Fly” comic, based on real-life stuntman Joe Ramacieri, was licensed and published by Marvel from 1977-1979. It ran for 19 issues, and the character also appeared in various other Marvel comics. During his run of adventures, the character encountered various other superheroes and Marvel characters such as Spider-Man and Daredevil.

The Human Fly’s origin story is similar to that of the Six Million Dollar Man and the life of Wolverine in which he was severely injured in an accident and in an attempt to rebuild him, scientists infused him with a steel skeleton. The man, whose real name is never mentioned, begins to wear a consume and fight crime with his super biologic awesomeness.

Alan Brewer and Steven Goldmann picked up the reverted rights on the property recently, according to Deadline. Eisenberg-Fisher Productions will executive produce the proposed independent film. Deadline reported that financing for the project will likely come from private equity sources.

Goldmann will direct, and Brewer will produce along with James Reach. Tony Babinski, Cirque Du Soleil’s in-house historian, wrote the screenplay.

There is no word just yet on who will play the titular superhero, or when they film is expected to be completed.

Update For Iron Man 3 Features The Patriotic Armor

SuperHeroHype has confirmed that Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 will feature the red, white and blue Iron Patriot armor. The tri-colored armor first appeared in 2009’s Dark Avengers #1.

Following the Secret Invasion crossover, Norman Osborn was mistakenly thought of as a hero, and made the leader of a group of government-sanctioned Avengers, according to SHH. Using technology from Stark Industries, Osborn designed his suit as an homage to the recently-deceased Captain America.

However, this won’t likely be how it works in the film though, because Osborn is a Spider-Man villain, and Sony Pictures owns the rights.

Iron Man 3 is currently in production in North Carolina, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Jon Favreau. The film is intended to be a sequel to 2010’s Iron Man 2 and the 7th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It will be in theaters May 3, 2013.

WARNING: Potential spoilers follow.

ComingSoon has also obtained photos of the new suit, along with a look at exactly who will be wearing it. James Badge Dale, who plays Eric Savin in the film, will be donning the patriotic armor. In the comic books, Savin becomes the cyborg villain Coldblood, though it is not known whether this will play into the film.

Hulk To Get New Television Series

Movies based on Marvel Comics characters have been big moneymakers in recent years, most recently The Avengers. It’s only natural that they’d make their way to the small screen at some point, and it may come in the form of a new Hulk series from ABC.

ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said in a conference call Tuesday that he hopes “The Hulk” will be ready for the 2013-2014 season, according to NYDailyNews.com.

We had hoped it would be ready this year, but that didn’t happen,” Lee said.

Lee told listeners the show may be aired on ABC, but they might instead sell it to another network.

Wherever it would work best,” he said.

Unexpectedly, horror director Guillermo del Toro may be executive producing the show, according to TGDaily.com. ABC continues to work with Marvel writer Stan Lee, and Lee said he hope to bring more Marvel characters to television. Both ABC and Marvel are owned by Disney.

This will not be the first time Bruce Banner’s destructive alter-ego has starred in his own television show. Running from 1978-1982, CBS’ The Incredible Hulk starred Bill Bixby as Banner and Lou Ferrigno as Hulk. There has also been several cartoon versions of his storyline that have been successful.
