trueblood6-daw01

“True Blood” star Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel and Netflix series “Daredevil.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Woll will play Karen Page, the lady love of titular character Matt Murdock.

Page is the longest-running love interest for Daredevil. The character was created by Stan Lee and first appeared in the very first issue of Daredevil in April 1964. She’s the secretary at the law firm of Nelson & Murdock who eventually learns of his secret life as a superhero. She was portrayed by Ellen Pompeo in the 2003 Ben Affleck film, though the role was only a minor one.

Murdock/Daredevil, the the blind lawyer by day and crime-fighting hero by night, will be played by “Boardwalk Empire’s” Charlie Cox. Elden Henson will play Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Matt Murdock’s friend and legal partner; Rosario Dawson in a mysterious role; and Vincent D’Onofrio as the notorious villain “The Kingpin.”

Netflix picked up the 13-episode Daredevil — along with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, as well as miniseries The Defenders — in a massive pact with Marvel. Daredevil is the first series out of the pack, debuting in 2015. It is produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

Rosario Dawson to Star in Netflix’s “Daredevil”

Rosario-Dawson

Netflix continues to add big names to its upcoming series, “Daredevil.” This week it was announced that Rosario Dawson has joined the cast in a lead role of the comic book series adaptation. Marvel revealed the news today on its website.

According to Marvel’s announcement, Dawson will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings blind attorney Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.

Dawson is most known for her roles in Sin City and its recent sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. She also starred in the musical film adaptation of Rent.

The titular role of Dardevil, aka Matt Murdock, will be played by Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox. It was announced last week that Vincent D’Onofrio will play villain known as “The Kingpin.”

Steven S. DeKnight will serve as series showrunner.

“Daredevil” will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2015 simultaneously like previous Netflix Original Series. It will consist of 13 episodes. The series will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Daredevil” is the first of five Marvel projects that were ordered for Netflix. It is to be followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” before leading into a “Defenders” miniseries.

The upcoming Netflix comic adaptation “Daredevil” has added a new cast member by way of Vincent D’Onofrio. Reportedly he will play the foe for the titular character Matt Murdock.

The plot follows lawyer-by-day Murdock uses his heightened senses from being blinded as a young boy to fight crime at night on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen as Daredevil.

D’Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, an antagonist also known as “The Kingpin.” The character was described in the press release as “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with Murdock.”

“The Kingpin” was famously played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 film adaptation starring Ben Affleck.

D’Onofrio will star opposite the “Boardwalk Empire” alum (and my secret boyfriend) Charlie Cox as Murdock. So far no other cast members have been announced.

Steve S. DeKnight will serve as showrunner.

Owen Sleater, or you might know him by his mortal name Charlie Cox, will now be the next Daredevil! According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Cox will star as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer by day and crime-fighting hero by night on the Netflix and Marvel produced drama.

Cox becomes the first person cast in the drama series based on the Marvel Entertainment comics of the same name. Netflix picked up “Daredevil “– as well as “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” and “Luke Cage” and miniseries “The Defenders” — in a massive pact with Marvel.

“Daredevil” will be 13 episodes for season one. Steven S. DeKnight will now oversee the show and Drew Goddard will serve as executive producer and consultant.

Marvel and Netflix declined comment on Cox’s casting. Official confirmation is expected to come shortly.

Cox is most known for the role that broke my heart, Owen Sleater on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

Netflix has released the key art for the upcoming second season of Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove.” The show that doesn’t deserve a second season will premiere with ten new episodes on Friday, July 11. As a Netflix Original Series, it will have all ten episodes available at once.  You can see the new art above.

The show explores the strange happenings in the titular small Pennsylvania town, focusing on the unlikely friendship between the founding family’s young heir, Roman Godfrey (Skarsgård), and gypsy newcomer and outsider, Peter Rumancek (Liboiron). Roman and Peter are now faced with new responsibilities and the realities that come with adulthood. Roman’s relationship with his mother (Janssen) is all but dead as he struggles with his unwanted Upir birthright and the disappearance of his sister, Shelley (Martin). Peter moves in with Destiny (Horn) and is forced to get a job after his mother is sent away. Meanwhile, in search of a new life, newcomer Miranda Cates (Brewer) embarks on Hemlock Grove with an unknowingly profound effect on Peter and Roman. And Norman (Scott), still reeling from the loss of his family, must face the harsh truths that are uncovered about those he still loves.

“Hemlock Grove” stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron and Dougray Scott, along with Madeline Brewer, Madeleine Martin, Joel de la Fuente and Tiio Horn.

The series also stars Madeline Brewer, Madeleine Martin, Joel de la Fuente and Tiio Horn.

“Season two of ‘Hemlock Grove’ is a hot mix of passion, intrigue and supernatural thrills that come together in mysterious and riveting ways,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “The intensity and suspense take things to a whole new level and open doors to a brand new chapter that our members are going to love.”

“Hemlock Grove” comes from executive producer Eli Roth.

“I cannot wait for fans to see what’s in store for season two – it is going to blow away all expectations,” said Roth. “Netflix has been an incredible partner, and whenever we wanted to take the story in a dangerous direction, they encouraged us to go even further – into a scarier, darker, and sexier place. We guarantee you won’t see anything like this anywhere else on television.”

In case you didn’t know, “Hemlock Grove” is THE WORST.

Netflix definitely knows what’s up. They know what their consumers want and how they want it delivered to their eyeballs. The company has officially announced their plans to work with Marvel to develop at least four original series exclusively for Netflix, followed by a miniseries for the streaming service. Marvel will develop series for “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” and “Luke Cage,” in that order.

All four shows will have a 12 episode run and will begin streaming in 2015. The plans will culminate with “The Defenders” miniseries event about a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

Alan Fine, Marvel Entertainment president said in a statement, said,

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty. This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos added

“Marvel’s movies, such as Iron Manand Marvel’s The Avengers, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels. With House of Cards and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”

The shows will be produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios. There is no word yet on if/how the new shows and miniseries will tie into the current franchise, The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hemlock Grove (Somehow) Picked Up For Second Season

hemlock-grove-trailer

Are you fucking kidding me? The excruciatingly unbearable Netflix exclusive series, “Hemlock Grove” that aired last year, has been officially picked for a second season that will air next year. I really hated that show and if want to know how much I hated it you can read my review here. I honestly do not see how this series merits another season. However, it is happening. The series stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley, and Dougray Scott. The second season will consist of 10 episodes that will go into production later this year. The sophomore season of Hemlock Grove will premiere in 2014. Continue reading
