viva-la-madness-book-cover-394x600

Jason Statham, professional movie badass, has officially joined the upcoming sequel to the 2004 film, Layer Cake. Deadline has reported that Viva La Madness is currently in the works and that Statham has taken on the nameless lead role that was originally played by Daniel Craig in the first film.

Layer Cake and its sequel, Viva La Madness, were written by J.J. Connolly. “Layer Cake” was released in 200o while “Viva La Madness” hit shelves in 2011. The official description of the novel is as follows:

“From the many levels of the London underworld portrayed in ‘Layer Cake,’ ‘Viva la Madness’ moves to international crime with trans-Atlantic drug deals, money laundering and high-tech electronic fraud, portrayed with the same uncanny believability. The anonymous hero of ‘Layer Cake’ is pulled back into the drug game before he can escape to a sunny retirement: in an authentic but dazzling combination of London low-life, Caribbean high-life and Venezuelan drug cartels toting machine-guns in Mayfair. The brilliance and the madness is back: ‘Viva la madness!’

Statham will produce Viva La Madness alongside Steve Chasman through their SJ Pictures. There is no word on whether any of the original actors from the first film will return or if a whole new cast will be set.

Disney Teams With William Goldman on “Princess Bride: The Musical”

the-princess-bride-poster

A new musical is in the works following one the greatest love stories ever told: The Princess Bride. The iconic 1987 film was based on the novel of the same name written by William Golding in 1973. A new deal between Disney and Goldman has the project finally moving forward to musical territory.

The Princess Bride a framed tales. Told by a kindly old man to his ailing grandson, it spins a comic tale of love and adventure about Buttercup, a young beauty reluctantly engaged to the kingdom of Florin’s evil prince but kidnapped on the eve of their wedding. She is ultimately rescued by her farmboy sweetheart Westley, aided by a giant and a Spanish master swordsman.

The film starred Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal and Peter Falk. It was produced by Andrew Scheinman and Reiner, and executive produced by Norman Lear.

The stage version of the love story was proposed years ago but was cancelled after several disagreements. Goldman collaborated on that project with Adam Guettel, the Tony-winning composer of The Light in the Piazza. But while much of the score was completed, development was halted over a financial dispute.Currently, it seems like the project is finally making headway.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said,

“My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart. For all those years and a few more, I’ve been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true. It couldn’t be in better hands than those of the experienced Disney Theatrical team led by Tom Schumacher.”

No timeline has yet been announced.

Justice League

Adam Driver Rumored for Dick Grayson Role in Batman vs. Superman

Justice League

Fans are incredibly curious about what to expect out of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman. Currently rumors are swirling that Adam Driver is the frontrunner  for the role of Dick Grayson in the feature. Grayson is known best as Bruce Wayne’s young ward and sidekick masked crimefighter Robin (and later Nightwing.)

Driver is most known for starring on the HBO series, “Girls.” He was also seen in the films Lincoln and Frances Ha. He can next be seen in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis, set to open in theaters December 13. His casting rumor is on the heels of news that three actresses are also testing for the rumored role of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman.

Batman vs. Superman will feature the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, facing off against Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also starring Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. There is no confirmed reveal of what the film’s exact storyline will be. Also a full cast list has not been released.

Personally, I would cast Joseph Gordon Levitt as Nightwing as he had his perfect opening for the role at the end of The Dark Knight Rises. What a missed opportunity.

The highly anticipated film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

“The Hunger Games” could be getting it’s own theme park attractions. The Wrap has reported that Lionsgate has been approached regarding potential theme park opportunities in two different territories based on the popular novels and film series. There is no word yet on where these territories are or what the attraction could be.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said,

“We’re excited about those opportunities and we’re pursuing them.”

Currently, the film adaptations of the novel series by Suzanne Collins, is about to release the second film in the series. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” hits theaters on November 23, 2013.

Also announced was the possibility of more the addition of more “Star Wars” attractions. peaking with Bloomberg.com, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger had this to say about future “Star Wars” expansions.

“The only thing I can share, which actually I don’t think we’ve talked about much, is there is a fair amount of development going on at Disney Imagineering right now to expand the Star Wars presence in California and in Orlando and eventually in other parks around the world. We do have Star Wars in other theme parks, France, Paris and in Tokyo, and we haven’t made any specific announcements of what will be in Shanghai or what will be added in Hong Kong after we build an Iron Man attraction, but I think it’s likely that Star Wars will be in more than just our two domestic parks.”

Jon Favreau Adapting Disney’s The Jungle Book

5219280_orig

Deadline has reported that Jon Favreau is in talks to begin adapting a remake of Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book. Originally adapted from the book of the same name written by Rudyard Kipling which was publish in 1894, the tale of an Indian boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves and lives among the other animals in the jungle has been adapted several times already.

Most famously, Disney released an animated version of the story in 1967 and then a live-action film was produced in 1994. The book is now public domain and can be adapted by anyone. Warner Bros. is also developing their own live action adaptation with Steve Kloves writing the screenplay.

The stories in “The Jungle Book” were first published in magazines in 1893–94. Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England, he went back to India and worked there for about six-and-a-half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Vermont. There is evidence that it was written for his daughter Josephine, who died in 1899 aged six, after a rare first edition of the book with a poignant handwritten note by the author to his young daughter was discovered at the National Trust’s Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire in 2010.

Justin Marks is attached to write the script for the remake. There is no word on any other talent attached to the project or who the studio is looking at to star. No anticipated release date has been confirmed.

Comic Series Savage Brings Bigfoot Vs. Werewolves to the Big Screen

savage.hp_-618x400

According to a report from TheWrap, Image Comics is adapting its comic book series, “Savage,” into a film. What makes “Savage” enticing? Bigfoot vs. Werewolves. YES. The comic series was created by Jeff Frank. E. Thompson. Co-written by Frank, Dan Wickline and 30 Days of Night’s Steve Niles and with art by Mike Mayhew, the original comic series is described as follows:

“Peter is a shoe salesman desperate for a life transformation. Sam is a hunter of things that would scare the hell out of lesser men. These two collide in the middle of an epic battle between vicious werewolves and the legendary Bigfoot! And that’s just the beginning…”

James Cotten will director while John Adams of Pathbenders will produce. No screenwriter, cast or other talent have been released.

If there is anything that the movie world is missing it is films about werewolves doing something other than banging vampires. Adding Bigfoot to the mix is just a bonus. There is no word yet on who is being looked at to star in the film or an anticipated release date for the project.

Hopefully this project is more awesome and less like a Syfy original movie by the time of its completion.
