Eliza Dushku Confirms Voicing The She-Hulk in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Eliza Dushku has been confirmed that she will provide the voice of She-Hulk in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., according to SuperHeroHype. The show will be an animated series, set to air on Disney XD early next year.

Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse) has had multiple voiceover roles in the past, including both cartoon and videogame work. Dushku’s videogame credits include 2011’s Fight Night Champion, 2009’s Wet and 2003’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, among others.

She has also voiced comic book characters, including most recently Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Batman: Year One, released by Warner Bros. Aside from She-Hulk, the show will feature Hulk, Red Hulk, Skarr and A-Bomb, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb said at Comic-Con last summer.

Writer Paul Dini, who works on Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, will also be working on Hulk, according to a release from Marvel.

Adrian Pasdar, who voices Iron Man on Ultimate Spider-Man, said he will be guest-starring as the character on Hulk as well.

She-Hulk is not a new addition to the Marvel Comics family. She was created in the 1970s in order to avoid CBS copywriting. They created their own She-Hulk character to capitalize on the popularity of the live-action Incredible Hulk series.

To stop this from happening, Marvel asked Stan Lee (Spider-Man) to write the first issue of a She-Hulk comic book series, according to Comic Vine.

According to the Marvel Database, the character he created was this:

“As the cousin of Bruce Banner, Jen Walters received her abilities when she had a transfusion of blood from her gamma-powered cousin. She usually has the ability to change into her She-Hulk form on demand, and usually retains her intellect after the change as well. She’s a strong character who tries to balance her life as a lawyer with her life as an Avenger and adventurer.”

The resulting series, the Sensational She-Hulk, launched in 1989, and it relied on comedy to sell issues.

“She-Hulk was jumping pages, tearing holes in the paper of the page to escape, and often yelling at the writer. The series was stand-alone, as in not part of the dozen or so crossovers with an X-Men or Spider-Man title. Remember when the X-Men were funny? She-Hulk was sort of like that… with more laughs.”

She-Hulk has been a member of several superhero teams as well over the years. She has been a part of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes for Hire, the Defenders, Fantastic Force, and S.H.I.E.L.D. As a highly skilled lawyer, she has served as legal counsel to various superheroes on numerous occasions in addition to being a hero herself.

Few other details have been released about Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Tie-In Novel To Be Released For The Dark Knight Rises

Titan Books announced Monday that the official tie-in novel for The Dark Knight Rises will be released July 20, the same day as the film premiere. The Dark Knight Rises, to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, will be the final installment in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The film will be adapted to novel form by award-winning author Greg Cox, and published by Titan Books, according to a press release.

Cox has novelized DC Comics Universe stories before, including Infinite Crisis (2006), 52 (2007), Countdown (2009) and Final Crisis (2010).

Nick Landau, a publisher for Titan Books, said he is excited to be involved with the Batman project.

“Batman is one of the most iconic characters of popular culture,” he said. “We’re tremendously excited to work with Warner Bros. on the novelization of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ especially since it is the culmination of everything Christopher Nolan has done with his amazing trilogy. This is a part of motion picture history.”

Christian Bale, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman will reprise their roles in the film. This will be the last film in the series, however, as Christian Bale has decided to leave the franchise.

Additions to the cast include Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) as John Blake and Tom Hardy (Inception) as the film’s primary villain, Bane.

The official plot of the film and tie-in novel will follow the events of the previous film. After the death of Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for the crimes committed by Dent. He is subsequently hunted down by the police of Gotham City. Then eight years later, Batman returns to Gotham City where he meets the mysterious and alluring Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, as he tries to stop villainous Bane from destroying the city.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released in theaters and book form on July 20th, 2012.

Emily Blunt Joins All You Need Is Kill Adaptation

Warner Bros. has chosen Emily Blunt to co-star with Tom Cruise in an adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka‘s 2004 sci-fi graphic novel All You Need Is Kill.

The story can be likened to Groundhog Day, but with a twist, according to Variety.com.

“A soldier in a war against aliens finds himself reliving his last day over and over after being killed,“ according to Variety.com. “Through the training and battles he experiences in these time loops, he becomes a better soldier.”

The official summary of the graphic novel is as follows:

There’s one thing worse than dying. It’s coming back to do it again and again… When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji’s escape, or to his final death?

Blunt, who is most known for her role on The Adjustment Bureau as well as the upcoming film The Five Year Engagement, will be cast as another soldier, fighting alongside Cruise.

Doug Liman, whose credits include The Bourne Identity, as well as the rest of the Bourne trilogy, will be directing the film.

Though certainly similar to Groundhog Day, the plot of All You Need Is Kill sounds like it could make for an interesting movie. Big screen adaptations of graphic novels have been popular in recent years, as proven by The Walking Dead, whose second season finale received a record-breaking number of views.

Liman has a history of directing successful films, so Sakurazaka’s work is most likely in  good hands.

The film, dubbed “We Mortals Are,” is set to be released in 2013.

5 Reasons “Chobits” Might Be Our Future

Chobits (ちょびっツ) is a Japanese manga originally published by Clamp. It was in eight bound volumes but you can now buy it in one giant volume. It was later adapted into a 26 episode series anime in 2002. This manga (and its subsequent anime) is probably my favorite. I originally read it in high school but since have re-read it thanks to the awesomeness of having it on my tablet. Since I re-read (and re-watched) it, I realized the message of this story is even more prevalent now than it was when it first arrived on bookshelves.

Using the medium of manga (and later the series), it explores themes that people are often afraid to talk about. The growing bond between humans and their devices, the often-blurred lines of love, humanity, ownership, and a social commentary of where this world is heading.

Before I get to the five reasons, here is a brief summary of the story:

Chobits follows Hideki and his life after he finds an abandoned persocom in the trash. A persocom is a personal computer that comes in human forms (aka cute/pretty women and girls).  They talk to you and look things up for you and walk around with you. You can also get a small “portable” persocom, also shaped like a human but only a couple inches tall (and yes adorably female most often.)  Hideki names the abandoned persocom, Chii (the only word she is initially able to say), and the two quickly begin to bond.

So, 5 Reasons Why Chobits Might Be Our Future:

Our Dependence on Computers

Today, I woke up, got dressed, and checked my tablet for emails. Then I checked my phone. In the world we live in, it is almost impossible to not be on a computer at least once a day, though I suspect it is much more than that for most people. I spend about 75% of my day in front of a screen of some sort and it is hard to imagine living in a world where I wouldn’t. We, as a society spend WAY too much time depending on the computers in lives. I mean most people don’t know their best friend’s (or significant other’s) phone number by heart because they never have to remember it, its always right there in their pocket.

Chobits presents us a world where most people can’t function without their persocoms. They travel with them, they live with them, they work with them, they even love them. The main character, Hideki, even complains that he can’t do much of anything without a persocom, and before he finds Chii, is jealous of everyone who has one. It is like the way we treat iPhones, but to the extreme. Another character, Minoru, depends on his personally built persocom for companionship, to fill the void left when his sister died. She looks just like his sister, and he has programmed her to act as his sister would. Without her, it is strongly implied he would become depressed and reclusive (although one can argue he is already reclusive, but it would probably become an extreme case.)

The way we depend on our phones to keep us informed, our computers to be there to find answers for us, and our computers and televisions to keep us entertained, I think we are not far behind building machines that look like humans to further shield us from loneliness and pain.

Our Humanity

It is easy now to look at the machines in our life, and not have a second thought about throwing away broken ones or getting them reset, or repaired. Because they are just machines. However, we do have a tendency to be wasteful. Getting rid of our perfectly good phone because the newer model came out. However, what if those machines had voices, personalities, and human appearance like in Chobits? Would you be able to throw away that pretty girl into the trash when he memory failed and she was damaged? Unfortunately, probably.

Chii is discarded into a pile of garbage like she is trash. It is also alluded to that people recycle persocoms like we do phones and devices. Despite the persocoms being almost real people, they are still treated like trash when by some owners. However, Hideki and very few others in the world, cant look at the human face and see only machines, they see people.

It should also be noted that when our electronics begin having personification, it will be harder to maintain our humanity toward the electronics and toward each other. Also themes of ownership come into play, especially with persocoms of Chii’s variety.

Distancing From Society

I don’t think you can go into any building, anywhere without seeing someone on their phone or iPad. Or get through a day without getting a text message or email. With an app for everything, you can almost go through the whole day without speaking to an actual human. Banking online, order your takeout online, you can even buy your groceries online. We spend more time glued to our devices than talking to each other.

In Chobits it goes so far as to have people who MARRY their persocoms. This might seem weird to us, but remember, these persocoms have personalities, they are attractive, they seem like real people. Ueda, in the series, married his persocom and when her memory became corrupt and she couldn’t “remember” anything, he still he loved her so he couldn’t bear to repair her because she would have become a different “person.” He felt real pain for her, and because of that he has trouble forming relationships with other people after she “dies”. Yumi, the character that loves Ueda has a real inferiority complex because of the emotional attachment men have to their persocom. She, as a real person, also has trouble forming relationships because men are often too preoccupied with their persocoms.

Considering a few years ago a young man non-legally married his video game girlfriend, we are not far off from a world where our devices are friends, lovers, and even spouses. It is a slippery slope for sure.

Computers doing our jobs

We are pretty close to this happening. We already have computers performing tons of basic jobs. But we still have to set them up to do that. In Chobits, Chii is able to go out on her own and get a job on her own. She wasn’t told to and she didn’t need programming for it. She just went out and got a job in bakery. Ueda had also bought a persocom to do the accounting and finances for his bakery, and it is alluded to that most businesses have a persocom doing basic human functions such as being secretary but people can even have their persocom be their trainer to work out every morning.

There is both an upside and downside for this process, but in our already fragile economy (at least in the US), it does more harm than good. We are overpopulated and under worked. If we add computers doing our jobs, that makes even less people working and earning money to live.

While I understand computers doing jobs for us is economical in some cases and extremely helpful, there is a fine line between where we are today and where we could be if it got out of hand.

AI

In the series, Chii is revealed to be of the “Chobit” variety. A persocom that is sentient to the point of freethinking, reasoning, and most of all the ability to feel love, loss, friendship and all the emotions that make us human. She has free will and she is able to utilize so much so to even getting a job. The persocom falls in love with Hideki while he struggles with his own feelings for her fraught between loving her for her actual personality and his knowledge that she is a machine and ultimately the fact that he could never be intimate with her (due to the unfortunate placement of her memory/erase switch. Although there is debate regarding this part in the series and anime).

However, Chobits presents these struggles in a way that the audience can reason with both. Chi has memories, and feelings, and a pseudo-mind further blurring the lines between love and life. When a machine can think, can feel, can even love you, its hard not to begin looking at them as “people”.

This struggle is something that has been presented in several sic-fi story lines because we are heading dangerously fast to that world. Even cartoons such as “Futurama” explore the machine/human relationship.

It is not hard to assume that one day we will have computers similar to these, whether they are shaped like humans or not, we at least need to be prepared to rethink the way we define humanity.

The First Image Of Aaron Eckhart In I, Frankenstein Revealed

Aaron Eckhart, the incredibly visually appealing actor, is starring the in the new big screen adaptation of the comic book written by Kevin Grevioux. Courtesy of photographer Pablo Hassan, we have the first image of Eckhart in full makeup as the creature, Adam.

Despite the film being based on the comic book, Eckhart told ComingSoon that he is choosing to focus on the original Mary Shelley novel when it comes to becoming his character. Eckhart described his character as “Frankenstein is an intelligent, evolved man, and that’s how he is portrayed in this movie, for sure.”

I, Frankenstein is a modern-day tale of the creature created by Dr. Frankenstein. Centuries after his “birth”, the creature, calling himself Adam, finds himself in a gothic city, in the middle of a war between two immortal clans.

Filming for the project took place in Victoria, Australia over a period of 10 weeks. It was produced by Australia’s Hopscotch Features and the U.S.’s Lakeshore Entertainment.

It seems Hollywood can not get enough of the comic book remake genre. It is nice, however, to see that they are also picking less popular graphic novels and comics to adapt. I don’t think I could watch another reboot of Batman, Spider-Man, or the Fantastic Four. And hey, since I don’t get to see Harvey Dent again (played by Eckhart), this will at least fill that void.

I, Frankenstein hits theaters on February 22, 2013.

Walking Dead Creator Announces New Series For AMC

AMC announced Wednesday that Robert Kirkman is adapting his newest graphic novel series, Thief of Thieves for the cable television network.

The Walking Dead writer/executive producer is working with Chic Eglee (Dexter, The Shield) and David Alpert (The Walking Dead) to develop the new show.

Kirkman, who still writes monthly issues of The Walking Dead, has released two issues of Thief of Thieves, each of which sold out on its respective release date.

The third issue was released on April 11th from Skybound/Image Comics.

Though The Walking Dead continues to break viewership records with its portrayal of the zombie apocalypse (the season two finale drew 9 million total viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter), viewers of Kirkman’s new show will notice a distinct lack of “walkers.”

Thief of Thieves, as its title suggests, is instead a heist story. The series is about Conrad Paulson, “the world’s greatest thief,” according to skybound.com.

He vows to steal only what’s already been stolen, in an effort to right the great wrongs of his life. But he may be too late for redemption.”

Kirkman said he hopes his adaptation will bring something new to television, just as The Walking Dead did.

Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals,” Kirkman said in an AMC release.

While the announcement has evoked much excitement from Kirkman’s fans, one question seems prevalent.

Will starting the show so early in the comic series compromise the quality or direction of the story?

Not much of the story will have been fleshed out, so characters and arcs could have to develop simultaneously. For most writers, this would seem a daunting task, but Kirkman’s track record suggests there is no need to worry.

Kirkman said he feels his work is in good hands at AMC, which adds to the success of his projects.

AMC recognizes the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry,” Kirkman said in a release. “Their dedication to bringing The Walking Dead to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I’m excited about the potential of Thief of Thieves to reach similar levels of success.”

Old Boy Adaptation Casting Update

News has been slow coming for the reboot of the Park Chan-wook film Oldboy which is based on the manga of the same name. Casting news has changed drastically over the last few months for the Spike Lee directed reboot. Colin Firth was originally offered the role of the villain, however he has decided against it and now Sharlto Copley has been offered the part.

Copely, most known for staring in the film District 9, will appear opposite Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen as the main characters.

The reboot will follow Joe (named Dae-su Oh in the original) who will be played by Brolin as he is captured and imprisoned in a hotel room for over two decades (it was 15 years in the original). But Joe has no understanding why he has been imprisoned. When he is suddenly released, he is told he has just four days to determine the reason for his detainment.

Originally a late ’90’s manga series by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi, the American version will apparently, as in that series, go by that two word title rather that the single world Oldboy that Chan-wook’s version used.

I have seen the original film (but have not read the manga) and there are some pretty heavy themes from live and love, to the psychology of being imprisoned, incest, family ties, and not to mention the brutality. I am not to sure American audiences are totally ready for what the film entails, and I am curious to see what they keep and what they change slightly to make more appropriate for the less open-minded audiences.

Oh yeah, and the scene where he eats a live octopus alive… will probably make you sick. This probably won’t be included in the American reboot as eating live octopus is not a delicacy here as it is in Korea.

Men in Black: Alien Crisis to Invade Games on May 25

Activision has announced that Men in Black: Alien Crisis will hit the shelves on May 25.  This will be the same day as the release of Sony’s Men in Black 3; adapted from the the Men in Black comic books.  The news that has hit the net has been of the generic nature as no one seems to know what stance to take on the game.  There simply isn’t enough information to make an informed opinion.  Maybe consumers have become numb to the words of advertisement announcements.

Here’s some of the official announcement:

In Men In Black: Alien Crisis, players take on the role as Peter Delacoeur, a MIB Agent in training, assigned to unearth enemy aliens who are planning to destroy planet Earth. With hidden surveillance and stealthy guards on the prowl, players must ambush confidential alien intelligence and stop all alien attacks. Men In Black: Alien Crisis brings exciting, realistic MIB Agent movements as players shoot, and dodge their way through action-packed levels to escape fierce alien assaults. Additionally, all platforms feature two-player split-screen gameplay and four-person “hot-seat” competitive action for awesome friends and family involvement.”

Right off the bat I had an sophomoric reaction to the name of the video game character, Peter Delacoeur.  If we are to follow the naming convention of all MIB agents, it means that the name will be shortened to the first letter of the first name.  “In this game, you will play as Pee.”  ‘Welcome Pee.’  “Look out Pee!”  If you’re playing on the Ninteno Wii, you’ll control Pee with your Wii.  Yes, I’m a comedic genius.

While the name may be hysterical to my addled mind, the cover art is brilliantly done.  The image of the MIB agent is obscured enough to conjure the image of Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, without having to pay any likeness fees.  Honestly, I can almost imagine the moustache on the shadowy face of Agent Pee.

“To create a completely authentic Men in Black world and tone, Activision aligned with Jeff Gomez and Mark S. Pensavalle’s Starlight Runner Entertainment, Inc. to create the story and script of the upcoming videogame. Starlight Runner, a leading creator and producer of highly successful transmedia franchises, was selected by Sony Pictures to work in concert with the filmmakers to provide a single voice to the Men in Black universe with the upcoming film and related properties.”

Remember, this is Activision we’re talking about.  While known for Call of Duty and the Guitar Hero games, it seems the majority of gamers want to hate what they have to offer.  The consensus though is that the game will be, “kiddy” in nature, which is not so innovative or “in your face” and a little more generic when it comes to gaming.  As the game’s story doesn’t seem to be cannon to the actual movie, it gives me the feeling that the game will be closer to Call of Duty with an MIB skin on top of it.

“The game will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. All versions of the game are compatible with the Top Shot Elite peripheral. The PlayStation 3 version is also compatible with the PlayStation®Move sharp shooter and the Wii version with the Wii Zapper™.”

FEATURES INCLUDE:
  • 3rd Person Combat Tactics: Dodge and take cover as you battle hostile aliens in this action-packed, 3rd person rail shooter.
  • Investigation and Interrogation: Players must obtain vital intelligence by examining locations and interrogating suspects.
  • Nothing is What it Seems: Aliens often use clever disguises. Employ MIB investigative techniques to detect hidden threats.
  • Diverse and Customizable Weapons: Wield an awesome assortment of alien firepower including MIB classics like the “Noisy Cricket” and unique firing modes such as “freeze rays” and “antigravity grenades.”
  • High Octane Action-Oriented Experience: Pursue and escape fierce aliens in intense cinematic chase sequences.

Another New TV Spot for Marvel’s The Avengers Back in Action!

Marvel Studios has released another “new” TV spot for the highly-anticipated movie, Marvel’s The Avengers.  I really like how they’re really stressing the “Marvel” portion.  It really gets away from the trademark issues that were happening in the UK over the use of the name, “The Avengers.”

As this is the 6th television spot that has been recently released, it too has its own focus, this time being Captain America, titled “Back in Action”.  Yes, some of the footage has already been seen, but there are a few snippets and text that make this spot original.

The film will hit screens in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on May 4.  Directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.”

The new film sports an all star cast.  It includes:

Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man:

A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with a mechanical suit of armor of his own invention.  Becoming a superhero is obviously the best way to make people forget one’s a drunk and a reformed arms dealer.  Honestly, Stark needs to run for President now.

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:

A World War II veteran who’s convinced his only way to help in the war effort is to do drugs.  As the poster boy for steroid use, Steve Rogers is enhanced to the peak of human physicality by an experimental serum.  While the spot focuses on the Captain as the team leader, maybe they should have gone with someone more… PC.  In the Ultimate series, the Captain doesn’t buy that he’s in the future.  How does he arrive to this conclusion?  He bases it on the premise that there aren’t any African-American soldiers who’ve made the rank of Colonel.  “Must be a Nazi trick!”  Next thing you know, women will be able to vote.

Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk:

A genius scientist who somehow gets caught in the blast of his own science experiment.  Forget fail safes and controlled environments.  Due to the exposure to gamma radiation, Banner is transformed into a monster when enraged or excited. Ruffalo was cast after negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton broke down.

Lou Ferrigno; the man behind the monster in the 1977 television series of the Hulk, will voice “The Hulk.”  Lots of screaming and maybe some monosyllabic words.  “Hulk… Smash!”

Chris Hemsworth as Thor:

The god of thunder and disco era armor.  Thor which is based on the Norse deity of the same name is more a space alien than; thus saving religious issues being brought up in the movie. Hemsworth stated that he was able to maintain the strength he built up for Thor by increasing his food intake, consisting of a number of chicken breasts, fish, steak and eggs a day.  Fine and dandy really, but does an actor ever have to pig out and get obese for their role?  Probably, but not to be made of eye candy for those that like their men made of abs.  Now excuse me while I go back to eating this tub of ice cream.

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow:

A highly trained spy working for the international peacekeeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. “Her superpower set is using a gun and launching a luchador wrestling technique that disables men with her swinging crotch.”

Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye:

A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and master archer known in the comics as the “World’s Greatest Marksman”. While originally a superhero with a crippling obsession with bows and arrows, Hawkeye has had some proper reconstruction of his superhero background.  Now his abilities are due to his specials eyes.  Better than lasik, operations have allowed Hawkeye to squint his way into seeing his targets; his eyes utilize more muscles to constantly change the way he sees over long distance.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki:

Thor’s adoptive brother and nemesis based on the deity of the same name. Man, how did Odin the All Father not see any of this coming?  I thought he had a plan for everything.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:

The baddest director to ever walk the street for S.H.I.E.L.D.  The Colonel was revealed in previous films to be coordinating the “Avenger Initiative” which I thought was the training program for potential Avengers.   While he forgot to recruit Spider-Man and the Wolverine, Jackson was brought to the project with a deal containing an option to play the character in up to nine Marvel films.

Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill:

A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Jackson’s Nick Fury.  While in the comic she is pretty much a control freak and a raging bitch, I just don’t buy Smulders in the role.  This is not “How I Met Your Mother”.

  • Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye:
A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and master archer known in the comics as the “World’s Greatest Marksman”. Renner said it was a very physical role and that he trained physically and practiced archery as much as possible in preparation.
  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki:
Thor’s adoptive brother and nemesis based on the deity of the same name.
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:
The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who was revealed in previous films to be coordinating the “Avenger Initiative”. Jackson was brought to the project with a deal containing an option to play the character in up to nine Marvel films.
