MTV is officially moving forward with its own fantasy thriller series (likely hoping it will be the networks own “Game of Thrones.) The network will be adapting Terry Brooks’ Shannara straight to series with a 10-episode order.

MTV is teaming with Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar to adapt the international best-selling fantasy novels. The script came from Gough and Millar and immediately was approved by the studio executives causing Shannara to bypass the traditional pilot stage.

Casting has not yet begun. Jonathan Liebesman has signed on to direct taking over for Favreau. Liebesman will direct the first two episodes and also be credited as an exec producer. Gough and Millar will write and exec produce; Brooks, Dan Farah and Favreau will also exec produce.

The Shannara series is a long running beloved fantasy series that first started in 1977 with The Sword of Shannara and encompasses multiple trilogies and a prequel totaling over 25 books.

Shannara takes place thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.

This adaptation will be the first time the series has been brought to television. It was optioned for a film in 2007 but the rights expired in 2010 having never been made.

The first trailer for the upcoming HBO series “Westworld” has officially released and it asks viewed one very important question. “Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?”

The incredibly awesome looking series is set to premiere sometime next year and is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton film of the same name, in which a futuristic, Old West-themed amusement park turns into a living hell when the android attractions begin hunting the attendees.

HBO is not skimping on a fantastic cast for the new series. It includes Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Miranda Otto, and Thandie Newton. The teaser presents a subtly sinister mixture of Old West atmosphere and creepy futuristic backdrops setting the tone for Westworld’s singular style.

Westworld comes to HBO in 2016. Check out the creepy first teaser below:

First Deadpool Red Band Trailer Released!

deadpooltestfootage-main

The comic book movie fans have been waiting years for has officially released the first official trailer. Deadpool has released the first full-length trailer as promised when Deadpool released a “trailer trailer” earlier this week. The red band Deadpool trailer debuted on Conan last night, earning the episode a TV-MA rating due to the content, which is to be expected considering, you know, it’s Deadpool.

Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds in the titular role based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero. It tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

The rest of the cast is equally impressive. It features T.J. Miller from “Silicon Valley,”  Ed Skrein who you may recognize as the first incarnation of Daario Naharis in “Game of Thrones,” and Morena Baccarin from “Firefly.”

Deadpool comes out on Feb. 12, 2016. Watch the red band trailer below or if you have virgin ears, check out the green band trailer here.

HBO says Game of Thrones To Last At Least EIGHT Seasons

game-of-thrones

“Game of Thrones” showrunners have previously mentioned that they think the show will end up running around 70 hoursm yet HBO programming president Michael Lombardo recently revealed that the series will go on for at least EIGHT seasons.

He proclaimed,

“Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the [internal] conversation,” Lombardo said to critics at the Television Critics Association’s press tour Thursday when a reporter asked if the show would end after seven. “The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

Eight season is not the final order especially considering the currently order has the show renewed through next year only. However, Eight seasons as a verbal commitment is pretty comforting.

Even if the show did end at eight seasons, there has been talk about a prequel season where fans could see events such as Robert’s Rebellion. There is a LOT of material to tackle that has been mentioned in the book series and seriously laid the ground work for the chain of events for the war we see now.

“I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter,” Lombardo said. “It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”

Lombardo also discussed the shocking events of the recent season finale and whether Jon Snow is really dead. Lombardo maintained the same stance as the rest of the show’s team.

“Dead is dead is dead,” he said. “He be dead. Um, yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, Jon Snow is indeed dead.”

While that is not the most encouraging thing we have ever heard, fans were left with some good news. Season 5 will be available on home video next month—much earlier than usual.

Suicide Squad is almost here and a first look trailer has been released. Just 13 more months to go everyone! Suicide Squad focuses on a group of incarcerated supervillains who are used as deniable assets for the government to take on dangerous missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.

The film is written and directed by David Ayer, and stars an ensemble cast featuring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, and Viola Davis.

Agent Carter Renewed For Season 2 – Moving to Hollywood!

Agent_Carter_S-953767559-large

Thank the old gods and the new, “Agent Carter” was renewed for a second season. Then at San Diego Comic Con this year, we learned some very exciting information about the upcoming sophomore season. Jeph Loeb spoke with executive producers Chris Dingess, Tara Butters, and Michele Fazekas and cast members James D’Arcy (Edwin Jarvis) and Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter) at Comic-Con about the characters, the popularity of the series, and what’s ahead in Season 2.

Peggy Carter will be moving from her haven in New York City to Hollywood. Looking at what fans can expect from season two, Butter said, “We are off to Hollywood.” It’s 1947, approximately six months after the first season ended. Fazekas explained, “Things are different… not everyone is in New York anymore. There’s some history we’re not quite sure about.” She said some people aren’t talking and we don’t know why, and Carter gets a call to go to Los Angeles to investigate a murder. Fazekas said, “Just changing the location generates such great stories and interactions between the characters.”

But don’t worry, Peggy’s right hand man, Jarvis, will be already in Hollywood.

Fazekas explained, “He’s been there helping Howard Stark set up his new estate in Beverly Hills. He’s [Howard] doing government work.” Howard has also started a movie studio. D’Arcy asked if he gets to meet his wife, and it seems like the answer is yes. Thought just because D’Arcy does, apparently the audience may not this season.

Then, one of the questions that is always on fans minds, is whether Peggy will finally find love again after Steve. Fazekas said, “I would say that Peggy has put Steve’s memory to rest and has a couple of new opportunities.”

Atwell also commented how she has loved playing the now iconic character and how the quality of writing was clear from the very first script.

“There were so many nuances of character.” She continued, “She’s [Peggy] has taken over my life in such an amazing way… It’s changed my life.”

Batman: The Killing Joke Animated Movie Announced

96358

At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, it was announced that an animated movie is being developed based on the graphic novel, “Batman: The Killing Joke.” The news was announced by DC Comics’ Bruce Timm during the “Justice League: Gods and Monsters” panel.

“Batman: The Killing Joke” is one of the most popular Batman graphic novels. It was created by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, It is gritty with incredibly dark themes and tones.

It was first published in 1988 and has remained in print since. It provides a new origin story for the Joker, depicting him as a failed stand-up comedian who agrees to aid a gang of criminals and is thwarted by the superhero Batman before being disfigured; in doing so he is driven insane and attains his supervillain persona. It also features Barbara Gordon, also known as Batgirl and some psychological ramifications that she experiences as well.

The comic won the Eisner Award for ‘Best Graphic Album’ in 1989 and appeared on The New York Times Best Seller List in May 2009. In 2006, The Killing Joke was reprinted as part of the trade paperback DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. In 2008, DC Comics reprinted the story in a deluxe hardcover edition, which features new coloring by Bolland, with a more somber, realistic, and subdued palette than the original.

Not much is known about the animated film at the moment or how much of the source material it will remain faithful. It is expected to be released next year some time.
