Disney To Adapt Stuff Of Legend For The Big Screen

Disney recently announced that they have made a pitch deal to adapt Mike Raicht and Brian Smith’s graphic novel Stuff of Legend. Pete Candeland (Balto) would direct the film and Shawn Christensen (Abduction) would write the script.  Jake Wagner will executive produce.

This would be the second recent Disney project for Candeland, who is best known for his work with animation and for creating and directing music videos for The Gorillaz, according to Deadline.com. Candeland also worked with Paul McCartney to create the cinematic opening for The Beatles Rock Band for Harmonix.

Stuff of Legend, illustrated by Charles Paul Wilson III, is set in 1944. It tells the story of a boy who is abducted by the Boogeyman and taken to a closet realm known as The Dark. The boy’s puppy organizes a group of toys to embark on a rescue mission. Once in the closet, each of the toys morphs into a more powerful creature and together they wage war on the Boogeyman’s forces.

The intention, according to Deadline, is to make a live-action film set in a CGI world, like Alice in Wonderland.

Publishers Weekly had great things to say about the graphic novel series, stating:

The plot takes some dark turns, and there is a sometimes ugly psychological tension even between allies. The taut, suspenseful story will engross older readers, however. Wilson’s lovely sepia artwork infuses the book with an ominous feel and brings the complex emotions of the living toys to the fore. The volume gathers issues one and two of The Stuff of Legend comic, published by Th3rd World Studio, along with character sketches, a new story revolving around the soldier’s war journal, and character sketches.

There is no word yet on who is expected to star in the adaptation or a projected release date for the project.

Taking A Look Inside The Walking Dead Set: Woodbury

There are a few things we already know about the upcoming season 3 of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” We have already seen David Morrissey as the Governor of Woodbury, but we haven’t seen much of the actual set of the new season. Thankfully, a new behind-the-scenes set video along with some photos has been released to give fans an inside look at the set of Woodbury, and also the return of an old friend.

Spoilers are ahead!

In the set photos, we definitely get a good feel of how much of the season will look, at least visually. We also see what looks like the return of a character.

Michael Rooker appears in one of the photos as Merle Dixon, brother to a fan favorite zombie survivor Daryl. We hadn’t seen Merle in a while, except when he was inhabiting Daryl’s dreams. In fact, the last time we saw the real person Merle, he was handcuffed to a pipe on a roof with a zombie horde about to have dinner. While we do not know what context this character is returning in, it is safe to say that he is probably pretty pissed at Rick.

The behind-the-scenes video was filmed in Senoia, Georgia which provides the general scenery and set for season 3. You can watch the video below:

Walking Dead Fans Can Pay To Be Chased By Zombies

If you are a fan of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” or the zombie genre at all, you have probably contemplated what you would do during the impending zombie apocalypse. Would you be a scrappy fighter who kicks ass or a resourceful loner who finds a fortified perch to eek out an existance, or in the worst case: a meal for the living dead?

Well know you can find out without having to wait around for it to happen for real. Thanks to the Walking Dead Escape: San Diego, fans can find out exactly how they would handle the situation. The event is inviting up to 15,000 people to sign up for the chance to live while the zombie apocalypse begins.

The event is open to anyone 16 years or older and will begin on July 14th-16th inside Petco Park. The enticing event acts as a tie-in to the upcoming Comic-Con International.

“Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman, who will be participating in the event said,

“We wanted fans to experience — as closely as possible — the end of the world. It’s going to be a fun, messy time.”

The course for the escape was designed by Ruckus Athletics and creatively guided by Kirkman himself. It has intricate and interactive details that are true to original best-selling comic series that inspired the AMC series and is celebrating the release of its 100th issue.

Kirkman also assured that participants will not be timed, and that it is more of a “go-at-your-own-pace” type of event.

“You can run, jog, walk,” he said. “I’m probably going to crawl.”

Fans can register as a survivor or as a Walker or even as a spectator though that doesn’t seem as much fun.

Once participants reach the finish line or the “decontamination zone”, survivors will be evaluated to see if they have been infected. There will also be 15 makeup artists on site to make the Walkers as grotesque and real as possible. If you choose to be spectator, you can snap photos from the sidelines.

The event costs $70 for tickets but it seems to be worth it. At the end, all those who participated will receive an exclusive varient copy of the 100th issue which will be incredibly rare.

Marvel’s The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime. A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with a mechanical suit of armor of his own invention.

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor:
The god of thunder based on the Norse deity of the same name. Hemsworth was cast as part of a multiple movie deal. Hemsworth stated that he was able to maintain the strength he built up for Thor by increasing his food intake, consisting of a number of chicken breasts, fish, steak and eggs a day.

Update For Iron Man 3 Features The Patriotic Armor

SuperHeroHype has confirmed that Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 will feature the red, white and blue Iron Patriot armor. The tri-colored armor first appeared in 2009’s Dark Avengers #1.

Following the Secret Invasion crossover, Norman Osborn was mistakenly thought of as a hero, and made the leader of a group of government-sanctioned Avengers, according to SHH. Using technology from Stark Industries, Osborn designed his suit as an homage to the recently-deceased Captain America.

However, this won’t likely be how it works in the film though, because Osborn is a Spider-Man villain, and Sony Pictures owns the rights.

Iron Man 3 is currently in production in North Carolina, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Jon Favreau. The film is intended to be a sequel to 2010’s Iron Man 2 and the 7th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It will be in theaters May 3, 2013.

WARNING: Potential spoilers follow.

ComingSoon has also obtained photos of the new suit, along with a look at exactly who will be wearing it. James Badge Dale, who plays Eric Savin in the film, will be donning the patriotic armor. In the comic books, Savin becomes the cyborg villain Coldblood, though it is not known whether this will play into the film.

The Effects of The Amazing Spider-Man To Be More Realistic

Mark Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man, due in theaters July 3, may seem like just another comic book adaptation by a different director but it seems this one will at least differ in its stunts and practical effects from director Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong, who has worked on James Bond films, the original Superman movies and the first three Indiana Jones movies, worked as second unit director and stunt coordinator on The Amazing Spider-Man and has brought his real world stunt work to the project.

In an interview with Flixist, he discussed his work for the film and the exact differences from Raimi’s work.

They came to me and my brother [Andy], who’s working on it as well as another stunt coordinator, and said, ‘Look, we want to try and make it more about physical flying than computerized flying,’ and Andy and I had been talking about that anyway, and we said absolutely, that’s how we’re going to do it.”

Armstrong also explained how he used his expertise from another film adaptation, Tarzan. He explained his choice of effects comparing it the character from that film.

Tarzan would grab one vine, fly diagonally away from it, sweeping down which gives him the momentum, and then at the height he would change to another vine when he’s weightless and sweep down in another direction. That propels him along.”

In his memoir The True Adventures of the World’s Greatest Stuntman, Armstrong explained why he isn’t a fan of using CGI in films when he can avoid it.

A good analogy for CGI would be morphine — morphine is an incredible drug if you use it for what it was intended for, used sparingly, in the right amounts,” he said. “But when it’s used too much, you get addicted and it’s a killer. And that’s exactly what CGI is. More movies have been killed by CGI than have been helped by it.”

The Amazing Spider-Man is based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school and will explore him trying to discover the truth behind his parents. The film also brings to life new designs of the film franchise such as Parker inventing artificial webs like in the original comics instead of organic webs.

The Amazing Spider-Man will hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
